To athiests...what makes you Not believe in God?

i mean, i would like to believe in God and when i die, i'd like to believe i will go to heaven, but i believe religion was invented or created to just give people hope when they have no one or nothing to turn to...

I really like your theory. When the Roman Empire was collapsing

the Emporor Constantine demanded all Romans become christian. He claimed he saw a cross in the sky so if they all became Christians they would begin winning wars and become a stronger empire. Well it sounds like he pretty much used it for hope that the Roman Empire would begin to build back up but things really only got worse....So I think that is a good theory that it is all used as hope. =]

The total lack of any objective evidence for the existance of any deity figure. That goes for Wotan, B'aal, Zeus and the FSM, as well.

There are a number of reasons. The main ones are Occam's Razor (combined with the lack of empirical and philosophical evidence in God's favor) and the Problem of Evil. Certain pieces of evidence such as the distribution and nature of religions, the nature of the Universe, evidence from computation theory and so on also add to the total of that which makes me believe God does not exist.

Since Atheists don't believe in God....it would make sense that we also don't believe in Heaven or h**l.

So for us we have morals, ethics and a conscious simply because we want to do what's right.

I personally don't believe in God....because it's not logical.

Years of doubt and unanswered questions.  Most religions give me the creeps and I too believe that religion is man made, to keep order in society.

In a few hundred years, someone will rewrite the bible and make it more appropriate for those times.  

God will then accept g*y marriage, premarital s*x etc, because otherwise everyone would be going to h**l.

Some people believe in things because they want to believe in them - because those are things that make them feel comfortable.

Other people believe only in things which are true.

Most Christians believe that they are good, worthwhile and intelligent people.

Once you have believed one ridiculous thing, there is no telling how far you can go.

I thought I was Christian, but in reality I didn't know what it meant to be Christian. I believed in heaven/h**l and a God but didn't think of what the bible said. Then again I was 9. Some of my family and friends are Christians. By Dad USED to be one of those Christian rocker kids in high school, but now he and my mom are agnostic. At age 13 I stopped thinking about God because my parents never discussed religion with me. My uncle died when I was 14. I took that death hard. He was like a brother to me. People kept saying that he is in a better place and they would see him again one day, but something in my gut told me I wouldn't. I became more agnostic with atheistic leanings then. I'm 15 and still that way. I'm still on my search for answers and hopefully I live long enough to find them!

if  people werent born being taught that load of c**p there is no way they would go to it later in life it doesnt take a brilliant person to realize that this is nothing more than fairytale and the only reason people remain believing in it is plain and simple FEAR. well december girl,i dont believe in god because i learned more, understood it and questioned these views and this gods existence

and that i found this gods existence to be illogical, unrealistic and a mere sociological fantasy

and because there is no evidence of god existing and no theorys suggesting how it could exist

you can still believe in god without religion and you can believe in an afterlife without god
