I know that for pitcher it's must have, but for the other positions do you need to be tall? I'm 14 and I'm 5'5 and most kids are 5'7 and up.

  1. some people don't stop growing till their 18.

You got time.   Its also proven if you imagine yourself being bigger or taller, you will actually get taller. Image your bigger, your body will adapt to be bigger.

  2. no for 14 year olds you do not have to be tall in any position. when i was playing there was a kid about 5'3 and he was played every position on the field, including pitcher, and he had a nasty curve ball.  so you do not have to be tall to be a baseball player.

  3. The shortest major league player was Eddie Gaedel, who measured 3 feet 7 inches and weighed 65 pounds. Gaedel pinch-hit for the St. Louis Browns (AL) vs. the Detroit Tigers (AL) on August 19th, 1951. Wearing the number 1/8, and using a toy bat, the batter with the smallest ever Major League strike zone, walked on four pitches.

    Just ask him!

  4. ABSOLUTELY NOT unless youre a first baseman and it helps if youre a pitcher.  there are players who are 5'5 in the MLB

  5. No. There was one guy Eddie Gaedel I believe who was 3' 7" tall and was put in for the St. Louis Browns in a game against the Tigers.

However, real answer: no, alot of infielders especially are a bit on the short side. In the outfield, I've seen short and tall. To put it blunt, Maybe not pitcher, but anywhere else.

btw. Yes Gaedel was only in as a pinch hitter and was walked on four straight pitches, but still he was in the game.

  6. no way! you don't have to be tall do play any position except it helps on 1st base

  7. I heard that SF Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum was 4'11" 85 lbs when he was a freshman and he played

    Good Luck =)

  8. No, not at all. That's the beauty of baseball. No matter what your build is, you can play the game regardless of strength or height or weight.

  9. Not really, there are a bunch of players who are of that height and plus your 14 which means you have some more years to grow a little more.

  10. a lot of 2nd basemen aren't very tall. Just look at Dustin Pedroia, he's a beast. You're still 14 so you got a lot of growing to do, you'll be k.

  11. 1 ur 14, ur gonna keep growing

2 first base and outfield it HELPS to be tall

3 any thing like 2nd 3rd SS and C ur good to go

  12. No, there are so many Major League players who are under 6 feet, nothing to worry about. It's actually better to be a short batter because your strike zone is much smaller and that gives a good advantage. Don't worry you will grow a lot.

  13. No, height does matter at all for any position.

    Its all about talent.

Actually the shorter you are, the smaller your strike zone is for when you hit.

  14. Thats only with basketball boy!!!! I'm short and i made it to the LL world series!!!!

  15. No way. Its not always about height sometimes its about speed and other factors. Yeah it helps t be tall in some postions, but its definately NOT a must. Like i'm 5'1 and I have a lot of range when i catch.

  16. im nearly 16, 5'9 and 130 lb... and i throw in the mid 70s sometimes high 70s, who needs to be tall?!?!

  17. you would make a decent sized 2nd baseman or shortstop for your age. Alexi Casilla of the Twins isnt very tall and those are the positions he's played.

  18. no

  19. In the MLB, the average height is about 6'0, 6'1.
