To become a newscaster how much, and what type of education would i need?

You'd want to have atleast a University degree to nail the job.  And some exceptional social skills would be nice.

I am currently a student at American Broadcasting School. They teach you everything and a main part of their curriculum is newscasting. They also have distance courses. It is a 10 month course and when you are done, you would have learned production, newscasting, talk radio, copy writing. you don't really need any education, you just need to know how to read a teleprompter really well, have good diction and be a good looking talking head.  

Wait a minute, I think I was describing the qualifications of being the democratic nominee for president. My bad.

You should major in journalism or communication./ Perhaps a major in one and a minor in the other.

It depends on what you mean by "newscaster",

If you mean someone who sits behind  a desk and reads from a teleprompter, then a B.A. in Communications or Theater Arts would be most useful.

If you mean someone like the late Tim Russert, or a Tom Brokaw, a David Gregory, a Ted Koppel, a Chuck Todd, a Keith Olbermann, a tv journalist who can interview world leaders and write and communicate meaningful commentary on newsworthy events including politics, then at least a B.A. in something like Political Science, History or Economics.

I should think law, political science or history would  be helpful.  Also some debating experience and tons of practice in speech and speaking before crowds would be helpful..
