  1. I'm not a teacher, but I believe in Virginia you have to pass a certification test in order to teach the major classes.  So I am guessing after your college degree and student teaching internships 4- 5 years.  That is if you pass the first time.

  2. I just interviewed with a school in VA.  Here's what they told me:  I have to have a 4 year BA in education (they will not hire anyone without a current, up to date license); I have to have passed the Praxis II(which I already have); & I have to take the VCLA (It's a 4 hour long reading test); I need to fill out their application; & send in references.  Once all this is done & I have passed the VCLA, they can hire me.

  3. masters degree is preferred with certification program.

But the history to teach in Virginia is American history. It is the original playground for American history!
