To become an actress???????????

Question

i want to become an actress, I'm 14 years old and i think i have talent. I took acting classes and my teacher said that i was really good,, i want to audition for movies or shows, but i don't understand how the whole acting business works. Do you need an agent to help you find auditings or do you look it up online or do i need to go to an agency so they could help me out?,, i need all theses answered and maybe if you could give me more information about how to become an actress!

Roadmap to stardom is a great starting book to read if you want to learn more about the industry and what you need to have. Here's a link:

I really recommend it, it's very helpful in laying down the basics of what you need to do if you want to get an agent, headshots, auditions, etc.

In the meantime, take more acting classes (film acting, preferably, though both kinds of classes are good experience), talk to your teachers about the industry, and read up about acting technique. Any acting you can do is helpful, whether it be community theatre or student films. If you live in a city, student films are a great thing you can do to get experience and see how you look on film and build material for a demo-reel. Craigslist.org has listings for acting parts under gigs and talent. Just be really careful what you respond to, and never go anyplace private for an audition (no apartments, ominous closed buildings), and bring along a parent.

begin by auditioning for roles in plays.

Okay, you have the right mindset and you are in pretty much the perfect age range for wanting to become an actor :D

So what you have to start out with is this...

1) Get into the drama class at your school immediately

2) Drop by your public library and pick up 3-4 books on acting (and read them all ! but don't stop there, keep getting more and more books:)

3) Audition for all, and every performance venue at your school. (the more experience you get, the better!)

4) Swing by a local community college and take a couple acting classes

5) start memorizing and working on (extensively) audition monologues

6) Audition for all of your local community theatre, and church performances etc...

7) Talk to your parents (if you feel you are a strong enough performer, and if you like acting) about helping you achieve a career in acting.

8) Get some headshots done (nothing too expensive or flashy, just something clean and professional)

9) Find and audition for nearly all SAG or AFTRA approved talent agencies

9 1/2) If you don't want an agent, you can always audition at cattle calls, showcases, or talent searches

10) and remember... ACTING IS A VERY ROCKY CAREER CHOICE :D be ready for lots of rejection, criticism, hard work, and perseverance
