  1. yeah...

  2. I went to Art School and got my Bachelors in Fine Arts (concentration in painting), then I got my Masters in Museum Studies. My original plan was to live on art. (Can you hear the crickets?) I revised the plan to include a career in the gallery/museum field. Which I loved, but discovered was hard to stay in once I moved to the burbs (and married Military which is subject to relocation...). So, I applied for a job teachign art , took the praxis 1 and 2 as well as 4-5 classes (paid for by my district) and got my license while I was teaching. Becasue I already had such an extensive art background, they wlecomed me in, and offered me the higher payscale (masters plus!). Typically, you can get a degree in Art Ed. but my experience was more than enough for them to give me a chance. Been at it for 5 yrs so far adn love every bit of it--except the woeful lack of funding to the arts...  : )

  3. If you want to be a GOOD art teacher you should know enough skills to teach your students.  Also, students will learn more from you if you know your stuff.  As far as requirements, you'll need a degree in education and art.  You'll probably need some kind of portfolio to get into an art program that would demonstrate at least some natural ability and art knowledge and a wide range of projects that you have done.  They will teach you more as you go and you'll gain a lot of skills.

  4. Well, people always say "those who can not do become teachers".. ha ha.. how mean is that?  :) Anyway, you really should be able to draw decent.  You need to be able to show the students HOW to do it.  I mean, if you can teach them w/o showing them in art, I applaud you... but I don't really see it happening!  You may find that you only need to know a little.  You might go to teach a lesson & read up on it before you teach it & be good to go!

  5. Well, art history & technique are important, the more knowledge the better rounded an instructor you become.

I'd check the requirements in the places you're interested in. I mean do you want to teach elementary kids or college kids?

  6. yes, of course! if u want to teach the students art but u dont noe hau to draw, they will their respects to u n u wont even stand much longer! so try to take an art course n get a cert!
