Question:

To buy or not to buy? 1993 BMW 525i?

My husband and I are contemplating buying a beater car to prevent putting excessive miles on our primary vehicle. The beater car in question is a 1993 BMW 525i Touring Wagon. The exterior of the vehicle is in very good condition as is the interior (with a few minor exceptions). The only thing that I am having a bit of trouble digesting is that the airbag light is on and it will not deploy if needed unless the problem has been resolved. Of course, if we bought the car, we would take the necessary steps to fix the problem but I am just wondering..

1. Is the car worth $2K in this condition? (Also, no A/C, 2 tires must be replaced...) Kelly Blue Book says it's worth about $3K...?

2. Does anyone know about how much work of this nature costs (labor to detect problem & then resolve)? Is it worth it???

Thanks!

  1. BMW's are good cars but the parts and service are very expensive.

unless you or your husband are good with tools

I'd say this car is too old and needs too much work.

  2. if u get a used honda civic for $2g u can get a 1998 ? so its 5 yrs newer and prob easier to maintain...
