To child care workers/teachers, people good with children?

Im currently studying my diploma in children's services and have been given a task to get as many peoples opinions as possible on the following question.

If you have the time, it would be much appreciated for you to give me a detailed answer! Thankyou! =)

What are some qualities professional child care workers need? (to best support children's needs and interests)

  1. Communication/Social skills, kids need to enjoy their company, they need to be good at resolving conflict and I could probabyly go on for a while!


  2. *  Profesionalism- personal, w/ relationships with children-families-coworkers-administrato... community.

    * high moral standards

    * Communication skills- between administration, co-workers, families, and children

    * creativity...not just with "art".  :-)

    * Problem solver and can teach conflict resolution

    * self-disciplined...children learn a lot by example

    * motivated and enthusiastic

    * believing in people...whether they are the children/parents or co-workerse.  Even the aides play an important part in child care.

    * life long learner

    * committed

    * organization

    Good luck in your career.  So glad you have the words "professional child care workers".  So many people still consider us and even themselves as "baby sitters" and we aren't.  Thanks for helping build our reputation up!

    training (classes in early education to include development, art, music, principles, observation, math, science, health, safety, nutrition, etc)

    desire (to actively participate in all the required trainings even after they begin their jobs that will keep them current)

    creativity and innovation (to seek new methods and ideas to keep themselves and their classrooms challenged)

    professionalism and a sense of humor (to be able to smile when a child pukes on your shoes, a parent decides to get in your face, or when a co-worker isn't as professional as you are).

    motivation (that the only reasons they are doing this job is not for cheap daycare or because they don't want to work nights and weekends.)
