To create buzz about a yard sale?

Question

I was thinking about offering a free bottle of water to anyone that shows up for the yard sale, regardless of whether they buy something or not. What do you think? I can get the water really cheap so it's not like I would be using more money than I would make back..plus it's the middle of summer. If I went to a yard sale that offered water I'd be more inclined to look around longer, which would probably get me to buy stuff...lol...what do you think? Would you hang around? How about telling your friends?

Just be prepared to have a LOT of people!!  But it is a fantastic idea!!  I had a yard sale about 2 weeks ago but I just had it from 7-12 on fri and sat.  Friday morning at 6:15 (while we were setting up) people were already driving by to check it out!  We did most of our business for the two days within 3 hours on the first day!!  The second day I only made about 20 dollars!  Good luck!

Good idea, but it could cost you.  Remember to list it on any community websites, and craigslist.

Fabulous! Saw a book on yard sales once and they suggested offering drinks and a sausage sizzle (do you have them? BBQ-ing sausages and it goes on a piece of bread with sauce, disgusting but a favorite cheap aussie food for big gatherings) and as it is summer where you are cold water is a great idea - but if you are going to do that, advertise the fact, and don't forget to put up balloons to draw attention to your house.  I also use big pieces of brightly coloured cardboard in a 2-3 block radius with directional arrows at intersections and YARD SALE TODAY on them.  Use the same colour board so people know to follow that colour to your yard. Its amazing the amount of people that will come.

hmm sounds like a pretty good idea, but i'd just tell my friends and tell them to tell other people, and put up signs.
