  1. Write letters. Start a scrap book for him, include pictures & clippings of his favorite things: Nascar, school, friends, etc. Collect things for a care package, have friends help fill it. Join a support group or start one for your area. Stay busy by finishing school, working or volunteering at the Red Cross, schools or worth while projects in your area. Don't forget emails.

  2. My husband is in the Army and is Afghanistan right now.  I have a 7 year old and a 7 month old to keep me busy but I also picked up a part time job working at a bar.  I moved home to be with his family while he is gone just so I would have people around me all the time  I found that being around people helps out.  I also have a myspace and I talk to a bunch of the military wives and also talk to my husband on yahoo all the time.  Well I hope you find something to pass the time.  I know first hand how hard it is to be away from the one you love.  It is also hard when you have children.  My husband left when my son was 3 months old.  It is so hard knowing that he is missing out on so much.  Well take care and my prayers are with you.

  3. I'm sorry to hear that he's being deployed over. I'm going to be completely honest with you..It sucks. Big time. I hated it when my boyfriend left. Was gone for 16months. But luckily, we talked on msn pretty much every single day. Sometimes twice a day because of the time difference. That helped a lot because I knew that he was still ok. Was hard when all the soldiers lost internet connection to their rooms though, cause we were only able to talk through email whenever he got over to an internet café. Good thing that was at the end of his deployment though. But really, all you can do is stay strong, you know he will come back, and just keep going on with your life as if he were still there with you. Keep busy with your girlfriends, work, school, sports, whatever..Just keep yourself busy so that you aren't constantly thinking about him. I found that helped with me. Just keep your spirits up, and a positive attitude, and he will come back to you safely. Just know that there are a lot of people around you for support for when he's gone. Good luck with everything, and if you need anything, just sent me an email if you need to talk, or send me a message on messenger.

  4. I would shop for post cards.  Get unusual ones or funny ones or meaningful ones of places you go or places he likes and send him one a day.

Also, take photos.  Work on taking really nice photos of yourself, etc., that you can send to him and he can show off.

I would also buy a book by Stormie Omartian called "Power of a Praying Wife".  It has beautiful and powerful prayers and scriptures to use to pray for his well-being,safety, and peace every day.  That book can really help.

I have a relative in basic training right now...so it isn't the same as these ladies that are really going through the grueling thing of knowing they'll be gone for a very long time and out of the country, but in basic, you don't get to talk with your loved one hardly at all for the nine weeks, so that's why my suggestions are as above.
