I'd like to add that I do alot of open exposure shooting with film.

I'd like to have a digital camera that can really handle low light without having to set it to long exposure every time I shoot.

I also realized that weather proofing is rather important. I often shoot in brutal weather and would love to try some winter sports phot with a digital.

I may have just answered my own question....:), but would like your input nevertheless.

And yes, I thought of Nikons. But as mentioned already have a couple EF mount lenses.

  1. You may want to wait a while ...

I was shooting an assignment on Saturday with three Canon shooters and after the introduction of the Nikon D3, they are about to move from Canon to Nikon.  They are sports shooters and are all using the $8,000 1Ds Mark III cameras, yet the D3 has some exceptional low light performance features ... the $3000 D700 has the same sensor and electronics on board, so high quality 6400 ISO images are on the horizon.  Max has a D3 and D700 coming from Nikon Professional Services for him to test ... we will be shooting WNBA, NFL and MLB games during the test.  That will tell the tale.
