I am a U.S. Citizen and I work in a large U.S.-based NGO that does international relief and development. I want to get a job at the Rome headquarters of either FAO, WFP, or IFAD. If I apply for an opening there, will they expect me to already have a work permit for Italy? Or is it different because they are UN agencies?

  1. If you are not a holder of a Italian passport or European Passport  you will need a work permit.  They will have to help you with your paperwork as you will  need the contract they give you for the work to apply for the workvisa in your country.  For this reason it is likely that they give work to people with paperwork, or better yet residents because they dont have to go trough the hassle of helping you get here.  Sounds cruel but its like that here.  Try this link and see for yourself as it helped me alot...http://www.esteri.it/visti/index_eng.asp...  Goodluck !

  2. I had an american friend working for the FAO, HE HAD  TO HAVE A WORK PERMIT.

So most likely you will too.
