Question:

To induce or not induce?

I am in the middle of my second pregnancy. My first was normal but FAST and I didn't start feeling contractions until transition. Now I have moved and live about a half an hour away from the hospital. My doctor suggested that I consider induction because of how fast my first delivery was and how far I am from the hospital (she also said that after the first delivery, induction isn't bad - I wasn't induced with my dd). I do understand the pros and cons of induction, but given my history, what would YOU choose?

  1. I'm always more likely to choose no intervention so I would choose no induction and maybe look into having a home birth. You just gotta choose what's right for you. Good luck!

  2. do what you think is best, if i were in your situation then i would definately induce due to the fact that you deliver fast and live that far away, but its really up to you and how you feel about it but i would under those circumstances.

  3. I am generally 100% against inducing.  But in your case I would make an exception and induce.  It seems to be the safer choice.

  4. In general, I'm not interested in any kind of intervention.  I wouldn't want to be induced unless I HAD to be.  Just because the first time went quickly, it's not a guarantee the second one will too, it's just a chance.

  5. I would do a scheduled induction

  6. I dont see the problem, induce if thats what the doctor says. Only you know how fast the first one was and they usually come quicker with every baby. Induce and enjoy :-)

  7. I would NOT be induced if I were you.  I had no choice and was induced for medical reasons.   Induction brings on an entire set of new problems.  I had to have an emergency c-section because the induction didn't work.  30 minutes away from the hospital doesn't seem so far away imho.

Also, I was a "fast" baby (45 min), but my younger sister took "forever" (16+ hours).  So your second baby could take some time.

  8. I, too live almost an hour and a half away. That's the reason my doctor gave me for being induced with my first. I am HOPING  to to go into natural labor with this one, but I have to wait until October to ask, because they are changing my health insurance and I have to look for a new doctor to deliver my son.:(

  9. I have been induced, and I have gone into labor on my own. Being induced is not something I ever want again. I had very high blood pressure and I was getting very sick. Luckily my blood pressure is perfect this time around. If my Dr did suggest it I would follow her advice.

But, If I were you, I would choose an induction. I would not want to deliver on the car ride over. You know what to expect and I would trust your Dr's advice and concerns.

I was in labor over 16 hours both previous pregnancies so the fact that I live an hour away from the hospital is OK with me.

Good luck, and try to ignore all the close minded answers from people who can't put themselves in others' shoes.

  10. i would not induce. i understand the risk of "delivering on the way" but every pregnancy and birth is different. just because last time you might not have made it doesn't mean that will happen this time. i can see your dilemma though, i would hate to think that i might deliver in the car...but i honestly think i'd rather that than induction. seeing how you have already experienced induction though, i could see where you would be more worried about not making it to the hospital.

have you thought about a home birth? or have you thought about at least making preparations just in case you do have a quick labor you will be ready to deal with it wherever it may happen.

if you don't see any health risks or complications as a potential problem then i don't see why you shouldn't induce. its a personal decision though and its one only you can make. i'm biased, just as much as anyone else is, about whether induction is a good option or not.

  11. You will be fine... You don't need to be induced. My first I dilated from 3 to 10 cm in a matter of minutes. My second took 3 hours to get from 4-10. Every pregnancy is different and the chances that the first will be as fast is slim to none. 30 minutes is plenty of time to get to the hospital as long as you know what to look for. I would pay more attention to your contractions (ie even if they don't hurt your uterus will get tight which is consider a contraction). You will be fine.

  12. With my 1st I was in 18 hours of labor and had to push for 2 hours.  With my 2nd I was induced to keep him from turning breech again and it was so easy and awesome.  I was only in labor for 6 hours and pushed 3 times and he was out.  I wasn't tired at all and couldn't believe how wonderful it was.  I would go for the induction, obviously.  Good luck!

  13. I'm going to be induce with this one and that is one of my reasons for choosing to go this way.  I was not induced with both of my other pregnancies and I loved it.  the baby came when I wanted her to and I can't immagine it anyother way.  I say induce but it is such a personal decision that only you can decide.
