  1. For your skin to receive all the beneficial properties of a face mask, you should try and make one specifically for your skin type.

If you don't know what skin type you have, a simple test can be to press a piece of a brown paper bag; or simple tissue; to your face several hours after washing it with a normal foaming cleanser.

If when you press the material to your nose area and T-Zone, oil is absorbed through the paper or tissue but then when you dab it on your cheeks and possibly forehead, they are dry, you have Combination/normal skin.

If when you press the material to any part of your face oil is absorbed, you have oily skin.

If no oil is absorbed into the material in any area of your face, you have dry skin, which might possibly be sensitive.

    Okay, down to the masks.

I'll give one or two examples of ideas and ingredients for some of the skin types as you haven't really specified as to which you obtain.

    Oily/Combination/Normal skin -

You could mix rolled ground oats (like porridge oats) with some honey and natural full-fat yogurt until the desired consistency is made. Apply this to the face, avoiding the hairline and eye area. Wait for 10-15 minutes and gently wash off with warm water and a flannel if necessary.

Ingredients good in facial masks for oily skin are:

    Yogurt        Banana

    Honey        Lemon/orange juice

Oats          Forms of clay - Bentonite, Kaolin.

    Avocado (pitted and mashed)

(You could also add water to cat litter if it says '100% clay formula').

    Dry Skin -

Mix one egg yolk with a teaspoon or so of warmed honey and add a splash of olive oil to the mixture. Apply to face and leave for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.

Ingredients for dry skin face masks - (Anything moisture rich)

    Oils (olive, sunflower)     Powdered milk

    Egg yolks                  Aloe Vera gel

    Honey                 Avocado

(Two other masks/scrub you can make are from simply adding water to either crushed aspirin, or bicarb of soda. These are particularly good at fighting spots and acne).

I hope that some of this has been of help to you.

  7. Ingredients:
