  1. Everybody does.

Judgment--to decide that one situation is better than something else--is the same thing as decision-making. We need to make decisions to get by in life.

If somebody does something terrible to you, are you going to not pass a judgment when you have all of the relevant facts? Are you not going to learn not to trust that person? If you find somebody wonderful, are you not going to judge that your time spent with that person is a good thing, and seek to keep him or her around? Surely, you couldn't honestly tell me that you treat all people the same.

We all have the right to judge in regard to the impact on our own lives. To not do so would be irresponsible.

  2. If I understand what you're driving at, I'd assume you mean one who judges from a station of power granted by society.  And, one whose judgement results in punishment being bestowed upon the judged.

As such, no one can, in the ultimate sense.  It is only an artificial power.  Society can grant it, but for an individual to claim it is not valid.

  3. "All it takes for evil to triumph in the world is for good men to do nothing."

    Edmond Burke

"One must never fail to pronounce moral judgment.

Nothing can corrupt and disintegrate a culture or a man’s character as thoroughly as does the precept of moral agnosticism, the idea that one must never pass moral judgment on others, that one must be morally tolerant of anything, that the good consists of never distinguishing good from evil.

"It is obvious who profits and who loses by such a precept. It is not justice or equal treatment that you grant to men when you abstain equally from praising men’s virtues and from condemning men’s vices. When your impartial attitude declares, in effect, that neither the good nor the evil may expect anything from you—whom do you betray and whom do you encourage?"

Ayn Rand; from "The Virtue of Selfishness"

  4. I think we all know that no one has the right to judge. I find that people often get confused about being judgmental and just making observations. I believe we all have a right to observe people's behavior and come to the conclusion that they are not the type of people we want to be around.

  5. No matter what we want to think, the right to judge is usually held in the hand of the most powerful slug, right or wrong.  Sometimes that is done under the cover of a judicial system or a religious system but they all go back to POWER.   If your holding the biggest stick you'll probably find yourself in the position to judge the fate of others.   Might makes right is not some phrase from the past, it is very much alive and well in this lovely world of ours....

  6. Yes, we live in this world where people feel like just because they are alive and have their own mind, that they have the right to judge anyone they come in contact with.  The only person we should judge, is ourselves.  This judgment on ourselves should be the way we keep ourselves growing and doing the right thing.  Other people feel like if they share their opinion and judge others that they are going to control, influence, and change someone into doing something different.  They may succeed, but only at the cost of the other person losing a part of themselves.  It should not matter what others think about us, we are the ones who have to live in our own bodies and mind, and at the end of the day, this is all that should matter.
