why did the ewells accuse tom robinson of harming mayella ewell when he obviously didn't? i finished the book but i still dont understand why?

  2. Why do most people lie? To get out of trouble. Or in some cases, to cause trouble.

    Mayella committed an unpardonable sin in trying to seduce a black man. In punishment, Mr Ewell beat the ever-lovin' c**p out of Mayella. In addition, there's an undercurrent of incest when Mayella said, "What my daddy does to me doesn't count."

    To cover up his crimes, as well as randomly hurt the man he considered responsible for him beating his own daughter, he accused Tom Robinson.
