at my wedding reception (getting married in jamaica first, recep sat afternoon in nov) my colors are aqua and cream. but the plates are white and the chairs are maroon. so I'm using aqua table clothes, cream sashes to tie around chairs, and I'm not sure about the linen napkins? my flowers will be orange and hot pink. so should i alternate hot pink & orange napkins? i dont want to do cream napkins because they would be over white plates. would alternating napkins along with orange and hot pink flower centerpieces be to much? the flowers are a lily & the center pieces arent very big. all 4 colors will be on the cake table as well. help!

  1. If you were using white/cream tablecloths, I would suggest either hot pink or orange napkins, but definitely not both.

But since your tablecloth is aqua, I think you should go with the cream napkins. It wont clash with the plates.

Otherwise if you used colored napkins, with the big bold centrepieces, its going to look like a carnival.

  2. reading all this, I feel like your wedding guests are going to feel like they are on an acid trip. But then again, its hard to envision without actually seeing it... I would get a table and everything you want to use and set it up, try different color combinations and see what works and  what doesn't...trial and error.

  3. OMG.  You need to show your colors before anyone can really answer this question.  I cannot see aqua hot pink and orange together along with maroon.  It just is too much and will be irritating no matter how you try to tone it down.  There is a big push toward aqua this coming year, but to put maroon with this is sort of scary.   Be careful and do not let people talk you into odd colors.  Have a wonderful wedding, it will be beautiful if YOU think it is.  Good luck.

  4. I personally think it is going to clash. I'm having trouble picturing it but none of us are the people who have to like it. You and your groom are the only people who matter and if you guys like it then you should have it like that. Congrats

  5. It sounds like an awful lot to me, but I'd really have to see the actual colors you're using to make a judgment call.  What I'd do, if you can get and actual tablecloth, the china setting, a sample of the floral arrangement, and the napkins you're considering, and literally do a sample table setting with it all.  Barring that, then get the actual color swatches together, and see how they look together.  That's really going to be the best way to judge it, is to simply see it all together.

    Good luck!

  6. All those colors will look a bit scatty together.

Fold the cream napkins with larger paper napkins in the colors, so it looks like the cream napkins have a pink or orange border, which is in the right proportion of color to your dress and the flowers.

If you can, get chair covers in the cream, so that removes the maroon complication.

or have cloths in the cream, with the colors of your flowers in napkins, which eliminates the aqua.

    your call.

  7. I think putting the napkins in the pink and orange are going to be a bit much. If the napkins are going to be folded and placed upon the plates then I would stick with matching aqua for the napkins as well. Have a card printed in the orange and pink with either the menu selections, or a thank you for coming or something along those lines that will alternate tucked in to the aqua napkins. That way you still keep the colors of the table soft with touches of the pink and orange to tie in to the flowers.

As for the color of the chairs I truly would not worry about it. The only time you'll even see the effect is before everyone gets there or after they leave. Once there are guests in the seats, it's not going to matter what color the cushions are. Chairs are not necessarily part of the decor so much as necessary elements like walls and floors.

    Good Luck and Congratulations
