is the U.S. better off than it was 8 years ago? We had a Republican President, Congress and Court, just lately we have a House run by Democrats. This is a serious question looking for serious answers. What more could the Republicans accomplish? Thanks.

  1. We have this mess due to all concern of slick willies wiener escapades if he was doing his job and acted like a leader and president instead of a collage boy ! bin-laden could have been stopped and 911 would have been avoided so we would not be in a war right now, rumsfield needed to make an exit strategy and failed. And in the future Bush would be looked at favorably in the future taking out a dictator who kills millions of his own people! But very poor planning and put the blame where it belongs  Bill Clinton!

  2. Republicans suck!

  3. We could keep a racist who sat on a committee with a known terrorist who bombed the Pentagon and the US Capitol  from moving to Pennsylvania Ave..

  4. To the Kanji dude above me: Bush senior increased taxes, and Reagan tripled the deficit. How are they any better examples of conservatism then George junior?

  5. I am not a con, but absolutely the US is worse off than 8 years ago. I do not understand the denial from the cons.

  6. I think that if we hadn't had the attack on 9/11 we would be better off than we were 8 years ago.  The money being spent in Iraq has made a huge dent in our economy.  However, it looks as if we will be leaving Iraq in the next 2 years.  I honestly believe that we will be better off with McCain/Palin than with Obama/Biden.  Obama's economic policies of tax tax tax tax tax tax tax.... will hurt all of us in the long run.

  7. Let us not misrepresent the history

Dear Ams, Carter had to inherit the George Bush Sr problems of inflations and high feul prices. How short are memories.

Dear Beverly, clearly you have not studied the platforms of both candidates and the analysis done by several economics specialists that show without a doubt that the plan put forth by McCain will tax the middle class at least 4 percent higher than the plan put forth by Obama. So where do you get off saying Obama will tax tax tax tax??? You must make over 5 million a year and have reason to fear just proportions of percentages of tax, eh?

Do your homework before making inane statments of untruth, PLEASE? Thank you.

  8. 8 years ago we were enjoying a decent economy and fairly decent foreign stance.   The decent economy could be attributed to the persistent Republican Congress.  The decent foreign stance could be attributed to the Democratic President.  I'm not going to really get into Sept. 11 as that is a complicated issue.

Fast forward 8 years.   We have a Democratically controlled congress with the lowest approval rating in history.   We have a Republican President with one of the lowest approval ratings in history.  We are in a recession and foreign respect is shot to h**l.   Things are definately worse off.  BUT, you can't blame just one party.  The President is not the whole of the government, despite what liberals would have people believe.  The responsibility for the mess we are in lies on both aspects of the current government.

The problem with the current situation is that because of the Democratic Congress and the very conservative Republican President nothing got finished.  Congress blocked everything the President tried to do and vice versa.   Problems were never solved.

Get a Republican President that can work across party lines or better yet a Republican President with a Republican Congress and you will see a stronger economy, likely a stronger presence in terms of foreign policy, and fewer social welfare programs.  That's typically how that plays out.

Either way you need those two facets of government working together in order to really be effective.

  9. True Patriot sure sums up Obama's 'post partisan approach' doesn't she?

In my opinion, America has faced some tough challenges which had nothing to do with conservative ideology. Moreover, the President has betrayed the conservative ideals by being a tax-and-spend democrat without the taxation. Which is even worse.

If you want a good example of Republican leadership, look at Reagan, and HW.

To Tom Joad: He increased taxes because he had to, and you obviously don't remember Jimmy Carter's administration before Reagan if you have the gall to question his economic leadership. Or did you enjoy only being able to buy gas on odd days, or whatever?
