i am currently 35 weeks, i have a concern about the white spot on the babys heart..i believe its the top left venticle. i did take the screening blood test, that is made to see if they detect any defects on the baby. my results were normal. doctor tells me its nothing to worry about, that it happens alot. so she reschedule me another ultrasound 3 months later, to see if the white spot was still there. and it was still there. it didnt fade away. she still tells me its no big deal. did any of you experience this? because i know that the whitespot is a sign of down syndrome. i shouldnt be worried but im just paranoid, can you please tell me if u went thru this and how did your baby come out

  1. no hon the white spot on his heart during us doesnt mean down syndrome. it doesnt really mean anything. dont stress out. mine had the same thing and i freaked out but he turned out healthy. enjoy these last weeks bc you'll miss them.

  2. Is this your first?  I didn't have any abnormal ultrasounds, the closest I got was "We really can't see his heart to see if there are any defects, but we can hear it so it must be ok."  That was a little nerve-wracking!!  I was the same way as you, paranoid to the point of almost making myself sick that my baby would be sick, have a cleft-palate, have down syndrome, a hole in his heart or some horrible abnormality.  I was afraid for him and for myself that if he had any of those problems I wouldn't be able to love him somehow.

As hard as it is to believe now, trust me, once you have him and he is placed on your chest for the first time before they clean him off, none of that will matter.  Time will stand still and in that moment you will fall in love.  Its like trying to explain colors to someone who is blind but believe me, you will love him no matter what.

And if something is wrong you'll be in a place where they will be able to take care of him.  Just try not to worry so much about things as you don't need that added stress.  Be as happy as you can and enjoy the last few weeks of pregnancy as it goes soooo fast!!!  Then your new journey of motherhood will begin!

  3. this exact same thing happened to me! the white spot is calcium in the baby's heart and yes it is a marker for down's. But if your doctor isnt worried and your baby isnt showing any other markers, dont worry. My son had the calcium in his heart and it didnt go away for the entire pregnancy, and when he was born he was perfectly healthy. please do not stress yourself out over this (i know its hard) but have faith that everything is going to turn out okay. the calcium is only a cause for concern if there are other markers with it like dilated kidneys, etc.
