  1. Hola Chica!

Legendary surfer Rabbit Kekai still competes in amateur contests and he's 86 years old. There are all kinds of ways to compete in surfing and a lifetime for you to get good at it. :)

Most professional surfers begin bodyboarding and surfing around age 7. Pros travel the world year round and compete. There are also free surfers who don't compete but get sponsored and paid to surf like Dave Rastovich.

Yes you can join a team but you'll have to live in an area where one exists and where you're close to the beach.

  2. There is no age limit on surfing.

  3. are u kidding? i know a 45 year old mother of three who just started surfing, and she's getting really good. go! don't think about how good you wanna be. surf cos you love it and it's so much fun. good luck!:)

  4. You are not too old to become a great competitive surfer.  I would bet the majority of surfers in NSSA, WSA, ESA, and HSA didn't learn to surf until they were your age or close to it.

I have coached a number of pros over the years that didn't even develop their abilities until they were about 15 yrs old.  The amount of time you put into practicing and your natural ability will determine how far you can go.  As for teams, there are club teams, manufacturer teams, and school teams that you can compete on.  School teams are not that hard to make the starting squad since they often don't have enough members for full rosters anyway.

  5. 12? You are definately not too old! Where do you live? If you email me at tinygromsurfer@yahoo.com I could reccomend some great spots to learn at in your area.

As for teams, find an I.S.F. team near you, that's what I'm on and they have all types of abilities surfing for them!

  6. You're already washed up by the age of 12.

Seriously you can learn to surf at any age.  I started at 35.  It's not gymnastics or ice skating where you're already out of the competitive arena by 20 years old.  If you have time to commit to it and access to consistently decent surf you can progress pretty quickly.  If you have a local surf team I say go for.  It's good to have peers that surf better than you to help push you along.

  7. You are never to old to start surfing!! Definitely keep going... To join a team you do need to be good, or at least somewhat good. But if you keep up the lessons and keep trying you could be great! Good Luck!! Have Fun! I am a professional surfer and I started on a team... so you never know what will happen!!
