Well my 12 turning 13 year old daughter is still wetting the bed and she has a pretty small bed but after she wets the bed she just puts a towel on top of the spot and just sleeps till the morning. Then in the morning the spot has a dirty stain so i take a towel and wet it to clean it up... Is this what you guys do? What do your kids do when they finish wetting the bed? And how often do you guys get a new mattress?

  1. There needs to be a pure plastic/rubber sheet on over the mattress.  Before you put that on, spray a bunch of Febreeze on it and let it dry for a few hours.  Then the plastic bed covering (the kind with elastic all the way around).  Then a rubberized pad and then the fitted sheet.  You should take her to the doctor, there may be a medical reason for this.  Barring that - buy the poor kid some panty protection like small size depends or grown kid size diapers to wear to bed.

You should strip all the sheets and rubber pad when she wets.  should not sleep on that.

  2. Well I can help with parts of your question...  Cleaning up wet spots

like that use a product called ODO Ban it is a natural cleaner the uses eucaluptus oil. It cleans and kills the germs. try getting rubber fitted sheets to protect the matress,

you can also use this in the washer to clean your clothes,

    I hope I helped a little bit

  3. Why not invest in a moisture proof mattress cover? Chances are that once she stops bed wetting you will buy her a new mattress anyway. A friend of mine wet the bed until she started her period. Hopefully your daughter will too. This can't be fun for her either.

  4. I used to fit a waterproof cover to the bed and she would change her sheets and pyjamas. If shes that old take her to a doctor to see if she has a bladder problem.

  5. with two young children who wet the bed l  understand completely. The cheapest option is a plastic shower curtain put under the sheet. Have spare sheets at the ready.

Don't make her feel bad because its something she can't help tell her its genetic and possibly yours or your partners fault ( that might cheer her up a bit) Talk to a continence nurse at either your local hospital or an aged care facility. They can help with dealing with why she wets and at a later date give you an alarm to put on the bed that goes off when she wets and wakes her up and it retrains the brain. Hope this helps. It helped my nine year old. she has had relapses but we just borrowed the alarm again and we were back on track. Some chemists may hire the alarms out too if the continence nurse doesn't have one available

  6. Just taking a towel and cleaning it with water is unsanitary. you need to take everything off that is wet/stained and wash it each time she does this. also, are you taking her to a doctor? at 13 that is a problem. maybe invest in some diapers? or rubber sheets, maybe?

  7. Well, you may need to get a new mattress and then try these simple steps..

Cover the mattress with a protective cover.. .One that's waterproof they have all different kinds.  Ours is actually like a pillow-top and provides a good barrier.  It's machine washable.. Get a spare..

Spray the new mattress with SCOTCHGUARD fabric protector so spills/accidents will wipe right off....

Use a wet/dry shopvac for accidents.. Vacuum down the mattress.. It will extract most accidents....

Have your daughter sleep with CHUCKS on the bed OR in the ONE STEP AHEAD catalog there's a washable/reuseable chuck that slips over the sheets... I think it holds 6-8 cups of liquid...

Use ODORBAN or another enzyme based spray to spray down the mattress.... Use when the bed is stripped... Let it air dry...

Limit her fluid intake in the evening- or set an alarm clock a few hours after she goes to sleep to wake her and remind her to get up and go....

    Good luck

  8. well I'm 13 and wet the bed but no don't just wipe it you need to spray some disinfectant on it and 1 person said to put her in diapers please don't my mom makes me wear them and its torcher i hate it but if u thank its mandatory please ask her first before u just come in with them and make her wear them

  9. My daughter used to have occasional problems and I bought mattress covers that were padded lightly on top, but have a rubber / plastic  type on the underside.  These worked great and acutally made the mattress more comfortable.  Nothing can get through to the mattress and you can just pop them in the washer after every incident.  I would suggest buying more than 1 and you can get them at Linens n Things or even Walmart.

  10. The only thing I would do differently is to put a fan on the spot until it gets dry.  Since my daughter does this almost every night I also bought a mattress pad with a water barrier on it.  I then put two mattress pads on top and I always have a spare set of sheets at the ready for the morning and a spare comforter.  I keep a stack of towels for her to put down if she does so she doesn't have to go far to fix things and I ask her to put her wet stuff in the sink in the bathroom so she or I can rinse them out as soon as we wake up in the morning.  I also always make her go right before she goes to bed.  She sometimes makes it through the night if I do that.  I don't restrict drinking at night or anything. Sometimes my daughter has even started waking herself up and going instead.  Just lately.  She is almost twelve too.  Hope this helps.  Oh yeah and I did buy a new mattress this year.

  11. I wet the bed till I was 13 as I had cancer growing in my bladder and I have two chronic bed wetters as well. Urine does not completely come out of a mattress as it soaks all the way through the stuffing and the mattress is effectively ruined. My advice for the mattress cleanup (temporary) is to invest $50 n the Little Mean Green Machine which has an upholstrey attachment on it to enable quick cleanup of spills on furniture and carpet without having to drag out a huge carpet cleaning machine. It will even fit on your daughters closet shelf and can be stored with the solution in it. For longer term care, get a vinyl pillow and vinyl mattress cover for $3 at Wal-Mart. I have one of these on every bed in my home, even the guest bed, as you never know when company is going to come over and since I have four children and company has between 2 and 5 children, it has saved me big bucks on new mattresses as it is inevitable that someone will have an accident. With the vinyl cover on the mattress, if she urinates on the bed, all she will need to do is strip it down and give it a quick spraying with a half and half mixture of vinegar and water or straight white vinegar and wipe it down to get rid of the urine smell and bacteria. The vinyl zip cover will go over the entire mattress and zip at one end and I use these rather than the fitted mattress covers as they   prevent the mattress from absorbing dust and dust mites as well which is really great for allergy sufferers.

I have used the ones that have the padding and are like cloth but found that after a few times or so in the washer, they get microscopic holes in them and you end up with a surprise on your mattress. Not to mention the fact that they just create more laundry and are much more costly.

  12. My 8 year old wets the bed. We have a water proof mattress and put a water proof pillow protector under the pillow case. I use our enzyme pet stain remover on the mattress every so often.

I'll bet they make plastic mattress protectors/covers.

Have you thought of trying an alarm system? If she wakes up enough to go get a towel, it probably wouldn't take much to get her to wake up and go to the bathroom with a bell and pad alarm system. (I tried with my son but he doesn't wake up from it, and I can't hear it all the way in my room. I thought of buying a baby monitor so I'd hear it go off and I could wake him up, but I don't know how well I'll sleep with that thing on in my room. Plus he washes his own sheets. I just help him make the bed every night.)
