Resident allegedly falls on property and sustains an ankle injury but says he has not sought treatment because of no insurance and the local med clinic will not see him unless he prepays. Should the landlord offer to pay for the initial hospital bill?

  1. If the landlord was negligent in maintaining the premises which led to his alleged fall, he might be held responsible if it went to court. If the renter simply fell on his own or did something stupid that led to it, I would tell him "too bad." It's not the landlord's responsibility to provide for the medical care of his renters. It's the renter's responsibility to take care of himself....and that includes insurance.


  2. If he is paying you rent and falls on the property it is a 'home' accident. His home, as he is renting it, he is responsible for his injury unless it is because of your negligence, ie you were asked to repair a bad floor and did not do  it and he fell through. Call your local housing authority.

  3. No. If the injury was that bad he should have gone to the E.R.  I would do nothing unless you are being sued.  Do not respond to him since anything you say or do can be held against you in court.
