Does the Russia/Georgia situation feel like a 1980s flashback?

I don't think so.  To me, this is just a squabble which will be resolved locally.  The Russians are only flexing their muscles a bit to let Georgia understand that attempts to usurp international borders will not be tolerated in that region.

They will back off when they perceive that Georgia understands their position.
