  2. Yes.  It's called a ride along.

  3. As others have said its called a ride-along.  Some departments allow them others, like mine, don't.

    I did a few 100 hours worth of ride-alongs before I became a LEO, it was great experience. Personally I think anyone considering a career in LE should go on one, many times people discover it is not what they thought it would be and decide it is not for them.

  4. Most, if not all agencies allow and even encourage ride-alongs.  There are many people on yahoo answers that would benefit from a ride-along to see what a law enforcement shift is really like.

  7. Agencies offer "ride along" programs. Yes, I've let my wife and friends ride along. It takes several ride alongs to even get a small idea about the job.
