Question:

To purchase a travel bag for my bugaboo vs buying a lightweight stroller?

I have a bugaboo pram which I love! Does anyway else who owns a bugaboo bought the travel bag??

I have a few flights coming up over the next year, including a huge trip overseas, i cant decide if I should spend $240 to buy a travel bag for my bugaboo (its very sturdy and can be carried in three ways) or do i spend that same amount of money and buy a second pram, a more lightwieght stroller which would be much easier for me to transport around. My concern with buying a stroller is that it still wouldnt be in a bag and could easily get damaged in transit. Has any of you who has bought the bugaboo travel bag regretted buying it? And has anyone ever had any issues with prams being damaged in transit before?

  1. I guess I am a little confused, why don't you just use the stroller until you get to the gate/board and have them check it, and then pick it up again when the plane has landed, then you don't have to spend any money.

Edit: I guess I would get a second stroller.

  2. $240 seems like a lot of money for a bag to put a pram in (then again, that's not much less than my pram itself cost so perhaps money isn't a big concern?)

I don't have a bugaboo so forgive me if I say anything irrelevant lol.

Firstly, consider the size & weight of ur pram - is it going to be easy to transport on & off planes, in & out of taxis, other ppl's cars or rentals? Does it take up a lot of car space, thus limiting room for baggage (or meaning you need to wait longer times for a larger taxi, etc?)

Secondly, in the unlikely event that it *does* get damaged somehow, despite a travel bag - would you rather it be your favourite bugaboo or a cheaper stroller?

Personally, I would buy a cheap stroller (probably looking at spending alot less than that $240 you mention!) You can pick up an umbrella stroller for around the $80 mark, if you want one that can lay back (which I would, even for an older baby as then they can sleep more comfortably) but they start around $30 for the basic ones. Or if money is not a big deal, maybe something like the QuickSmart which is well designed for travel (but for 6 mths & up.)

As for travelling with prams/strollers, most airlines allow you to go right to the gate with them & they put them on from there, so the likelihood of any damage is probably less than if it's checked baggage. That also saves you lugging bub, all his/her stuff, your carry-ons, etc through the airport :D Good Luck.

  3. Definitely the second light weight stroller.

When I was pregnant with my first, we went out and bought a top of the line expensive pram, but we use our $50 light weight fold up stroller more then the expensive one!!

As for a bag, any bag will do- really! I actually use a esky bag, as it keeps everything fresher and the temperature how i like it.
