  1. Contact a LOCAL broker in your state. If you visit a website, make sure they are located near you...not one that is 1000 miles away.

    Good luck!

  2. Find a new job.

Sorry, but many of us are having to cut benefits and hours, we cannot compete with China and the new regulations & cost of doing business is killing us.

  3. If you were already on the health insurance plan, and lose eligibility because of hour reduction, your employer must offer you COBRA.  You would have to pay the whole cost yourself.

If you never joined the plan, you can check your State for health insurance options.

  4. Find a new job.  You can't make your boss give you more hours, or you can't make him change the plan to allow part timers health coverage.

  5. Search health insurance and get some quotes, talk to a few agents.

  6. If your employer has 20 or more employees then they will be required to offer you a COBRA group continuation plan that will last at least 18 months.

COBRA plans are very expensive because they are group plans and the employee will have to pay all of the premiums without the employers help in most cases.

You should only take this COBRA offer if you have major health problems and cannot get approved for a much cheaper individual health insurance plan.

There are plenty of things that you can do to find a cheap individual health insurance plan. Compare quotes from at least 3 different companies in order to find the best rate.

Here is some more information on COBRA and also on how to find a cheap individual health insurance plan:

  7. LOL! Everyone says find a new job! That's not feasible most of the time.

If you're young and healthy, you will probably be able to get a good deal on private health insurance. www.ehealthinsurance.com is a great website! It will give quotes for many different companies.

I don't know how much money you make, but if your aren't working much and making much money and have children, you may qualify for insurance through the county where you live. Contact the Department of Job and Family Services in your area.

Otherwise, you may end up like the millions of Americans with no coverage. Stinks...I know!
