"Being able to run consistently at 8.6 mph means that you enjoy a relatively high level of fitness. If you can run at this pace, it will take you only 35 minutes to complete your 5-mile run by lunch, just in time to replace some of those calories your activity consumed. "

what it classed as running consistantly? for how long?

  2. Running consistantly is to keep running at, or around the same speed or same effort. In this case it is to run at, or around 8.6mph for 35 minutes.

I am guessing that you copied ths passage from a magazine or website. What they are really saying is that in your lunch hour you should have time for a run and time to eat lunch. The speed is just an example that you could do 5 miles (the speed being a conventient one to give half an hour or so of running).

How long you can run consistantly for depends on what running you do. A 400m runner could do maybe 500m consistently, but after that their speed would drop. A marathon runner might manage to run for a couple of hours at a consistant speed. If you are running 10k races, being able to run at a consistant speed for an hour is a good goal to aim form.

Running consistantly is keeping a steady pace, and the length of time to run consistantly is dependant on what other running you do.

  3. I can do an hour on the running machine at 14.4 km/h (9 miles)

  4. running consistently is running non stop. if you walk you wouldn't be running consistently anymore. if you wanted to run consistently at one pace you couldn't slow down or speed up or your speed wouldn't be consistent. it wouldn't matter how long your ran for just as long as the speed stayed the same for how ever long you were running for.
