  1. Sounds like you want my job! I am the supervisor, I work in an office within a daycare centre, but am not with the children unless someone is out sick. Now, if you want to supervise a licensed centre in Ontario you need your ECE diploma or director's approval and two years supervisory experience. This is outlined in the Day Nurseries Act. You can get director's approval without your ECE, but the owner of the daycare will need to fill out forms to be sent to the Ministry on your behalf outlining their search for a qualified staff member and why they are resorting to an unqualified staff member instead. You will also need to prove you have educational background in Child Development and experience working with children. Once those papers are sent you are at the Ministry's mercy as to whether they will grant you Director's Approval.

I have seen former teachers and social workers become supervisors of school-age programs. However, I have never heard of a daycare supervisor without their ECE in my area. If it is simply a matter of not having taken your ECE yet, you might want to consider the apprenticeship program. You can work full time while having your schooling supplemented by the government. Two members of my staff team are getting their ECE's this way.

If you want to open your own daycare centre, you could hire a supervisor to oversee operations and you could be the owner/operator without your ECE diploma.
