To run an upconvert DVD player on an HDTV,do I need to sign up with a cable company?

What would a dvd image look like on an HDTV if I just used the tv for a monitor and wasnt actually signed up for HDTV by the cable company?

  1. An upconverting DVD player takes a standard DVD and upgrades the picture to look better on a HDTV.  It has nothing to do with cable service.  

      

      


  2. The cable company has nothing to do with your TV and DVD player. If you have an HDTV and an upconvert DVD player, you can watch dvd's. You only need the cable company if you want cable programming.

    About your second question.... Upconvert DVD players are no substitute for Blu Ray players. For the real HD quality you need Blu Ray, Sorry.

    Honestly, I dont even see a noticeable diference between the upconvert and basic dvd players.
