To saudis: what do you think of marriage cost here?

though the oil boom have changed, we talk about price increases, unemployemnts, life getting difficult ...etc

but one thing have not changed: marriage cost.

one need to go through long list of protocols, beauracracy, long list of 'do' and 'dont', from mahr, shabkah, perfect house, wedding ceremonies ..etc.

i am with taking marriage seriously, preparations, celebrating it, but do you think it should be simplified? i always thought the new generation will do so. but, seems it will take logn long time before this happen. do you have a hope?

I find the cost of marriage very high.

If one also considers that the divorce nowadays has reached 65%, I hardly can even consider it as an investment.

Nevertheless from what I hear, it is all about 'images' ; i.e. if the groom does not pay a lot it means his family did not want her much....or he is not rich enough.....

Unless people get over that, it will not change for a long long time....

it doesnt have to be.. If the women would get down from their high horse and quit wanting to be cinderella it would be easier on their husbands and future lives together

You can easily make it all cheaper and quit asking for enormous dowries....

I got married in USA in a little local univerisy masjid.. My whole affair cost me $20 US dollars.. Yep.. thats it...

My dowry was a trip to Disneyland...

I feel if the couple saves a lot of money on the wedding, they will have more for their future. They can hold the affair at someones home and have a simple reception. have friends and family help out with the decorations.. and make them really simple..

A sister in law (saudi)  of mine did this.. She scaled down the affair totally and it was still as beautiful and nice.. and cost 1/3rd of what normally costs...

I agree with Gigi.  Unless people get over the desire to look good to others then nothing will change.  Even attending a wedding can be costly.  Women often buy a new dress, new accessories, and pay to get their hair done!!!
