the 4 digit code is the CODE you will receive from Yahoo which you will be asked to enter in your YM before you can finally set it up for signing to a mobile device.  Without that or without you entering the said four digit codes which is sent to you from your cellphone/mobile unit, you can not proceed.  An email confirming the success of your action will be sent to you afterwards.
