  1. Attempting to eat any wild plants based on advice you sought from random idiots online is one of the dumbest things somebody could do.

If you are serious about this, go and purchase a real book.  You'll have good luck at outdoor stores, major book stores or by contacting various nature conservancies, who often sell such books or have guides and other information.  Carefully study the information.  Go on a hike with a naturalist who knows how to identify such things

DO NOT trust what you find on the internet, and be sure you are able to correctly identify plants.

Some edible or medicinal species endemic to southern California include:

    Anise (Sweet Fennel)

    Buckwheat

    Cheeseweed

    Coastal Sage

    Cucumber Gourd

    Filaree

    Horehound

    Lemonade Berry

    Lupine

    Mustard

    Sunflower

    Tree Tobacco

    Wild Artichoke

    Wild Oats

I will not tell you how to find, identify or prepare such plants because I don't know and doing so would be contrary to what I just told you about the internet.
