  1. Well not necessarily. I mean it's a good PREP for it, but you can take a regular course and jump into AP, just as long as you did really well in the last course, there shouldn't be any problems. Like the other answerers said, you only have to do it if your school says you have to, otherwise its no big deal. I've done it for regular precalculus and I went right into AP Calc AB.

Like I said you need to make sure though you truly understand the last subject before the AP class.

  2. Not at my school, but you are usually required to write 1-2 essays and sometimes you have to pass a pre-test. However, this might not be the case for your school.

  3. it depends on the high school. At my school, anyone can just sign up for it.

  4. Not at my school, if you were in college prep, you would have to get the teacher of the subject to recommend you to take the AP class.

  5. It all depends on the requirements for your state.

In my state(NC), you must first take the Honors course (and must pass), then take the AP course in the following semester.

  6. You only have to take the honors course if it's a prerequisite. Your guidance counselor should be able to tell you the prerequisites for any AP course you want to take. You would probably do better if you took the honors course prior to taking the AP course though but if you're a good student I'm sure you'll do well!
