To the Indian women employed in IT firms: Sexual harrasment Truth or Myth?

I hear a lot about inevitable sexual favours a working woman in India is forced to perform..I got placed in accenture and HCL,top It firms but im turning them down for the fear of the same......could you throw some light on the matter..is it as prelavent as we hear or is it just a myth?..have you experienced any?

I have not heard of single case of sexual harassment of women. I have experienced lots of cases of sexual exploitation of men by women. Men can not dare to report it because they think it will backfire, no one will accept them and that women may file false counter cases.

On another note, my personal experience tells me Women in in IT are burden on the  team. Men in team have to share a lot of extra burden just because there are few inefficent women in team. In my team of 10 i have 2 women, and I know of umpteen times when males have been forced to come forward to do load balancing in the name of this stupid thing called team work.

as far as sexual harassment is concerned it happens every where, IT industriy is much cleaner than others

its everywhere in all fields. not particularly in IT. everything depends how smart & bold you are & you project yourself. Todays world is all about survival of the fittest. So dont get misguided by all these rumours ,go for the job, good luck.

Hey.. please don't turn down the offer because of some rumours.These days thousands of women work in these firms and the working envorinment they provide is very healthy.Even if you have a problem with someone,you can always report it.The bosses want their work done from their employees and anyone disturbing them would be taken to task by them.

Yes. I wont want to deny the matter completely, though i would say it is common only in some companies, in some cities.

U did not mention the city.

But, u need not worry about it. Just come. HCL and Accenture are standard companies maintaining their reputation. U can join them, whichever city they are in.

see if you can satisfy your boss and make him happy, then you can get any job you want. But if refuse, then you may end up with nothing more than just a normal job. So i go ahead make your boss happy. It will give you what you want in your career.
