  1. Ya know, when I see owls, all I can think of is this:

But I chose not to make an issue out of it, because I'm sure that JWs are completely unaware of this sinister ritual.  Unfortunately, so much of God's perfect creation has been hijacked by Satan.

I'm hoping they will realize that an owl is no more evil than the Tav (written as X or † in ancient hebrew), the mark that God put on His people:

Eze 9:4  And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a MARK [Tav] upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.

I'm curious if they would wear a necklace with an owl pendant.   I'm certain many of them have cat jewelry.  What about the Egyptians worshipping cats?  What about Satanists sacrificing cats (among other things) as worship to Satan?

Yet, they are quick to condemn those who wear the TAV around their necks.  Just because someone ELSE has worshipped all of these symbols (and more!), doesn't make them inherently bad!  So long as WE (as individuals) are not worshipping them, there is no harm!

Silly girl: Thanks for the memories! <wipes away a tear>  Ah, those were the days. When owls were just owls!

Anna: Thanks for sharing the article.  I read that the BGrove ritual is based off of celtic rituals, and your information provided deeper insight on why they chose the Owl:

    Celtic Tradition

Cailleach-oidhche, Owl, represents wisdom, stealth, initiation, change and detachment. She is associated with arcane lore, clairvoyance, seeking deeper knowledge and death as a new beginning. Owl is aware of her surroundings at all times, has great intuition and the courage to follow her instincts. She offers keen insight into obscure occurrences, a bringer of hidden truth, omens and secrets. She is the power animal of psychics.

The Celts believe Owl is a mysterious magickal, sacred animal associated with deities of the Underworld, a place of unpredictable change, and is a guide to and from this realm.

This raptor is associated with the Moon and the Crone aspect of the Goddess. Barn Owl is especially revered as the one who sees without sight and hears the unspoken.

Oberon: You make an EXCELLENT POINT!!

"You've failed to establish any causality whatsoever between our choosing of owl avatars and ancient Pagan rights."

You have made a case for why OTHERS may have associated a cross with a pagan symbol... but you have failed to "establish any causlity whatsoever between" MY CHOOSING A CROSS as a symbol of my faith!!!  It has NOTHING to do with what some dude named Constantine said!  Besides, I'm sure the events of Ezekiel chapter 9 predate date the third century!   ; )

  2. Owls are a clean, pure creation of God. It was only later that pagans went against God and starting worshiping them. In other words, owls predate paganism -- they do not originate from paganism.

Owls, unconnected with paganism, are just fine.

The cross, on the other hand, was a disgusting pagan idol from the start.

  3. Uh-OH! .....ANOTHER pagan symbol?  JW's are gunna have to remove any owl symbols from their homes before another pandemonium breaks out like the infamous 'smurf' incident!

.....I wonder if someone who used an owl for their avatar will change it soon!....obviously wasn't a WISE choice.... considering!

**When I think of owls I think of this

  4. heh.  great find.

there are so many "pagan" activities in our day to day life that a person would have to sit in a cardboard box with the lid closed to avoid acting on any of them.  I think the situation is they like to pick and choose which pagan activities they're going to engage in... such as bellydancing (from another question) or in this case, pretending to have the qualities of an owl.

  5. Very interesting. They seem to pick and choose what they want to believe is pagan or not pagan.

  6. Are you Serious? Next  you will be picking on people who Post DOGS  as Avatars since " To the Israelites this animal was ceremonially unclean, and it is therefore unlikely that they gave any thought to the training of dogs. (Le 11:27; Isa 66:3) Its not like any of the folk in here posting owls as Avatars are advocating Eating those Birds.

Last time I read the Bible God created all things.

    ***

No God did not Create satan, before becoming Satan was, when created, a perfect, righteous creature of God. He is a spirit person, for he appeared in heaven in the presence of God. Jesus Christ said of him: “That one was a manslayer when he began, and he did not stand fast in the truth, because truth is not in him.” (Joh 8:44) Jesus here shows that Satan was once in the truth, but forsook it.

  7. Lol...that is good stuff...when I saw the owl avatars I thought of Harry Potter but I kept my mouth shut.  Thought maybe Harry Potter was ok now with all the "new light" they now have.

Silly you crack me up  : )

  8. I'm sure they don't give a hoot about it and I'm sure the two hooters I know of will avoid this question.

“All clean birds you may eat.  But these you shall not eat: the eagle, the vulture, the buzzard,  the red kite, the falcon, and the kite after their kinds;  every raven after its kind;  the ostrich, the short-eared OWL, the sea gull, and the hawk after their kinds;  the little OWL, the screech OWL, the white OWL,  the jackdaw, the carrion vulture, the fisher OWL,  the stork, the heron after its kind, and the hoopoe and the bat.   Deut. 14:11-18

Owls are an unclean bird and as of now they are unclean so it actually fits.

“ The heart is deceitful above all things,

          And desperately wicked;

Who can know it?   Jer. 17:9

I see the Bohemian Grove being mentioned, lol!

  9. You are aware that an owl is a graceful animal and we aren't pagan right?

And before you get started on celebrations the celebration itself is a planned out ritual. An owl is just an animal there is a difference.

And a cross is a established man made occult symbol. And i don't view my owl as holy i view it as a gimmick i will probably give up in a month or so.

  10. *flies in* *lands on Blessed's head* *pecks*

Oh please, why don't you go pester the Mormons and their duck avatars? Or could it be that you are attempting to use our avatars as an excuse to restart the whole debate on the pagan origins of the cross and certain religious holidays?

You've failed to establish any causality whatsoever between our choosing of owl avatars and ancient Pagan rights. You have no idea why we chose them; therefore, as many here have already agreed, your assertions are laughable.

ex: the Pagan adoption of owls DID NOT CAUSE us to choose them as our avatars.

However....causality has most definitely been established between the REASON for the adoption of the cross symbol and pagan sun god worship.

ex: the Pagan origins of the cross symbol, along with a need to appease Pagans and grow the church, DID CAUSE its adoption in the 4th century

“These crosses were used as symbols of the Babylonian sun-god, [See book], and are first seen on a coin of Julius Cæsar, 100-44 B.C., and then on a coin struck by Cæsar’s heir (Augustus), 20 B.C. On the coins of Constantine the most frequent symbol is [See book]; but the same symbol is used without the surrounding circle, and with the four equal arms vertical and horizontal; and this was the symbol specially venerated as the ‘Solar Wheel’. It should be stated that Constantine was a sun-god worshipper, and would not enter the ‘Church’ till some quarter of a century after the legend of his having seen such a cross in the heavens.”—The Companion Bible, Appendix No. 162; see also The Non-Christian Cross, pp. 133-141.

Dean Burgon, in his Letters from Rome, wrote: “I question whether a cross occurs on any Christian monument of the first four centuries.” Mons Perret, who spent fourteen years doing research in the catacombs of Rome, counted in all a total of 11,000 inscriptions among the millions of tombs. According to him, “not until the latter years of the fourth century does the sign of the cross appear.” Among the signs that do appear are the dove, a symbol of the holy spirit; the lyre, a symbol of joy; the anchor, a symbol of hope and the fish.

The Encyclopædia Britannica, Vol. 7, of edition 11, page 506, says: ‘It was not till the time of Constantine that the cross was publicly used as the symbol of the Christian religion.'

Honestly, even if we got rid of our owls, you would just find something else to complain about.

So then, we don't really give a hoot what you say. Find a sense of humor, and learn to take a joke.
