What's the answer to:

6 * 5 + 24 - 2*(32 - 2 * 3)

I'd like as many people as possible to try the problem and give the answer they come up with.

Good luck!

The Best Answer will be give to the person who gets the problem right AND shows and explains their work.

Thanks!

  1. 6 * 5 + 24 - 2*(32 - 2 * 3)

    = 30 + 24 - 2(32 - 6)

    = 54 - 2(26)

    = 54 - 52

    = 2

    Hmm but where's the algebra??

  2. Order of operations: do multiplication and division before addition and subtraction, and do things in parenthesis before things outside of parenthesis.

So lets star with the things inside parenthesis:

    6 * 5 + 24 - 2 * (32 - 6) (did the multiplication first)

    6 * 5 + 24 - 2 * 26 (now we're finished with the things inside parenthesis)

    30 + 24 - 52 (did the multiplication first again)

    2
