To the best of your everyday-people knowledge, how real is Global Warming?

I do not want scientific explanations. Just what ordinary people think, not what they've learned from sites and such. Thank you.

  1. Global warming is as real as Cinderella, the Seven Dwarves, the Easter Bunny and Santa.

  2. U have limited your data. There are some real pot holes in trying to calculate the average temp of earth. A person could skew the data the way he wanted. Using more data points from the warm climate and less from the cold climate. The so called scientist know that if they reported no problems the money to study it would be gone.

  3. It is a myth and the basic knowledge I received in my high school years made it very easy to determine this fact. The why took a lot longer and is much more complicated to understand except it is based on this book and the religious fervor of radical environmentalism derived from the books teachings.

  4. I agree with most posters as I think it is a real issue, but whether or not is it stoppable is what I think is a main concern.  I do think it happens naturally over time (think ice ages)  climates change and do a "reset"   Whether or not we are speeding up this process I think needs more data to support and really put in numbers as to what we are contributing and what is natural.  I do however think that the weather is off, (winters in Colorado have gotten much colder and the summers are hitting 100 degrees in early may which was unheard of 20 years ago.)  Every summer I hear of how "hot" temperatures are everywhere, we all seem to be hitting 90+  and the weather it self just seems more extreme.  But regardless of whether the effects can be proved, I still think we need to live in a greener world for the sake of the unknown causes that could be happening.

  5. Ying and Yang, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.  I think it shouldn't take a scientist or genius to understand that when we burn stored carbon from over 400 million years ago and release that back into the atmosphere, from which it was extracted thus making the planet the temperate one we enjoy today and one that humans evolved on in the last 2 million years.

How come jello's answer reads like a cybertron? is it not human?

  6. If you disrupt the balance, something is going to change.

  7. Since there is no one who can tell you if it will be warmer or colder any time in the future and show you how they came to their conclusion, it's just a guess no better than a coin flip.

The only way you say global warming is real is to believe it's real, to have faith in what you are being told, as there is no science that can back up any claim.

Science just needs the math and the physics to make the determination that something is real or not, belief requires faith and the help of mystics to help make things true.

  8. Man-made global warming is real.  The science has been understood for decades.  In fact, the science was first studied in 1896.

Over the last few years every national science academy of every major industrialized country on the planet has confirmed recent climate change is due to human activity.

That's why I know it is real.

  9. Every year the weather is screwy.  Every year we live in screwy times.  Screwy is normal.  People just can't seem to come to grips with that reality.

  10. real enough for Vermont to snow in August

  11. Global warming is real. I felt it's effects this summer during a 3 month drought. I felt it last summer when it rained 19 inches in 5 hours and my home was flooded. Erratic wheather patterns are one of the main effects that we will feel.

Yes, data is being skewed, by big businesses - I have faith in that - even though I may not have scientific proof my heart tells me that someone is lying to us - and that didn't take a mystic's help to figure that one out, only the obvious.

--Jello melts in heat from drought and washes away in flood waters.

  12. i think that we are causing great damage to the planet..even before we knew we did, when trash used to go straight oceans, now there laws. So much harm being done its not even our planet were just borrowing it basically using up all its resources. i'm a bit of a tree hugger.

  13. Several different things point to the fact that there is actually a global warming going on, such as increased melting on the polar caps, increased frequency and strength of hurricanes and species wandering further polewards because of a warmer climate. To me it is an absolute fact that a global warming is occurring!

What is not completely sure is what is the cause of this warming. The global climate has changed several time over the last millions of years going from ice ages so much colder then we have today to climates as warm or slightly warmer then what we have today. Most of these changes seems to be caused by a combination of the earths tilt, distance to the sun and the non-circular shape of the orbit combined. Each ice age lasts approximately 100,000 years and each warm period lasts approximately 10,000 years. So logic tells us that we should definitely be in a warming period, and the temperature can increase quite rapidly until it all gets unstable and plunges us into the next ice age. The question is, is it all happening naturally or are we speeding things along?

  14. Based on many years of talking to ordinary people about this, I would say the avererage person is very very aware that the weather is screwy. Some people are confused by the ways in which it's screwy. The wonder this year why it's being referred to as global warming when it's causing unseasonably cool weather.

But people get that there are too many floods, tornados and sequential hurricanes and typhoons... and I have heard many people comment on how strange it is that after let's saya huge and historically unheard of amount of tornados, the weather and news people simply don't point out that it's uncharacteristic.

People know something is going on, and they see that the official world is trying to keep a lid on their awareness.

And all the blockheads out there who think that the way to deal with it is blame Al Gore aren't helping anyone and they are at this point only harming themselves in their denial.
