  1. Puck has it pretty much down - however I would like to add 1 more item. The Canadian Football League has been around longer than National Football League.

  2. Canadian football is basically American football with a few minor differences. The football is slightly bigger, the playing field is bigger, there is one more player allowed on the field per team (12 total), and there are 3 downs instead of 4. But the primary rules and objectives are the same as American football and not anything at all like soccer or Aussie Football.

    Hope that helps!

  3. First, Aussie rules football and all North American football evolved from rugby so they are related.  And while they are still distant cousins there are quite a few similarities.

As to the difference between Canadian and American football, as the guy above says, there are some minor differences in the game structure but a lot of the game play is the same.  In Canada the game focuses on passing with running to augment play calling, in the US until recently they ran the ball more and passed less.  For this reason fans of Canadian football found it way more exciting because scores were frequent and wild finishes to games were common.  In the NFL recently this theme seems to have caught on and although they still try to run the ball, there are more wildly exciting games since some teams have opened up the game with extra passes.

The NFL is the big daddy of football.  It's a huge marketing/money making machine and so it draws the best players and gets most of the media attention.  In Canada, football still takes a back seat to other sports, especially hockey.

  4. I'll give you the link too our website. My favorite team are the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
