3. You than round it off by looking at the hundreds place and since its not 500 or over you keep it the same by getting rid of the 4 and put a 0 and put as your answer 86,000

If maybe the answer was 84400 then to the nearest thousand was going to be 8000 because 440 from the 84400 is less than 500 therefore closer to 0 than to 1000.
