My son is almost 7 months old and is cruising, I don't know when he will walk but he is letting go of what he pulled up on and stands momentarily by himself. I would like to know what challenges I have ahead of me with him walking, and about how long do I have if he is letting go with some balance??

  1. Good luck. When my daughter first started crawling we learned very quickly that she's a very curious child and we had to child proof everything. We've got baby gates blocking off huge parts of the house where we dont want her to go. We've got electric sockets every where. We've rearranged every room in the house so that everything thats in her reach is in a blocked off area. Other then that we give her, her toys and let her roam free.

  2. I think you are worrying a little too early. 3 of my children didn't walk until they were around 15 months old. This is when I also learned to walk. My last baby learned at 9 months. They are all different.

With my 2nd child, the doctors didn't think my daughter had good muscle leg strength when she stood up on my lap, so they kept trying to run X-rays on her hips. My mother told me to put a stop to all the X-rays, so I did, even though my husband thought I was overreacting. We now know too much exposure to X-rays causes cancer. Also each Cat scan a child receives greatens its chance for cancer. After just a few of these, it is equal to what the Japanese suffered from the after effects of the Hiroshima bomb.

  3. That is very young, just be prepared to chase a lot, because he'll probably start running right away. Be sure there's a minimum of things for him to trip over. My daughters crashed several times, and usually it was because of tripping over something left lying around. My sister had to back her son into a corner at that age so she could take his picture. He never stopped moving, but he had so many bruises from falling that the dr suspected them of beating him.

  4. Mine is also 7 months and doing the same. With my daughter she started at 10 months, and by 12 months she was fully on the go and stable. I'd say in the next couple months he will begin to be more steady and on the go. Just make sure you have things cleared out for him, and pointy things covered, electrical outlets baby proofed...ect. He'll go from walking to running very fast, that gets a little scary because they tend to get going faster than they can keep balance with. Just be safe/cautious and help him. Pretty soon he'll be taking off!

  5. Good luck.  Child proof child proof child proof.  He should be walking soon.  Thats really young but every kid is different.  Enjoy them and take lots of pictures that is such a great stage in their young life.

  6. Challenges:  Child proof your house, if he can get to it, he will pull it, yank it, push it, l**k it, hang from it, etc.  Get anything that can tip over on top of him out of his reach.  Breakable stuff needs to go up higher.  Be careful with corners or sharp edges.  A million things.

As for when he starts walking, I have twin girls.  One started walking at about 9 months and the other waited until she was 11 months old.  Depends on the kid really.

  7. Some challenges is putting everything out of his reach. My son liked to get into the soil of the plants, so we had to move those higher. Of course you have to plug all of the outlets. There are things they will get into that they never could before now that they walk. Try getting down to his level and see what he can grab. When my son grabs something that he is not suppose to, we just say, "no touch". If your consistent with it he will learn what that means and catch on.

My son was doing the same thing at about 7 months. He was about 10 months when he really just started walking every where with no problem at all.  It is so much fun when they start walking, so have fun.

  8. If he's letting go of things and has some balance then you probably don't have much longer at all before he's walking. You can never be sure, of course, some kids cruise around things for a while but if he's letting go I'd guess he'll take some steps within a few weeks. You're probably going to have an early walker on your hands- get those cabinets child-proofed if you haven't already & good luck! LOL.

  9. wow -- only 7 months?  That' kinda early, but awesome!  You HAVE to child proof your whole house!  cupboards, corners, gates, etc.  And watch every move he makes -- you never know where he's gonna go!  Good luck! =)
