To those that are afraid of spiders or insects, are you able to live alone?

Spiders are one of my phobias. I'm so afraid of them that I don't want to get near them. Every time I see them I freak out and scream in tears. If I keep on being afraid, I'll never be able to live on my own in the future.

If you live alone and have a phobia of spiders, how do you deal with it?

  1. Hey there, sweet Sugar, there is no reason at all to be afraid of spiders and insects.  I've been around them all my life and have never been badly hurt by one.

Insects and spiders are wonderful creatures and a blessing to our planet.  Did you know, that if there were no insects or spiders, WE would not be here?  That's right.

If you just take a moment to "really" learn about and study insects and spiders too, you'd see that there is nothing to be afraid of.  Keep one thing in mind, no matter how terrible a spider or insect seems to you, YOU are "bigger" than they are.  They are the weaklings compared to you.  You are bigger, you are stronger, you are more intelligent, and you are their supreme being on this planet.  If you wanted to, you could destroy a spider or an insect with a spray, with a slap, with your foot.  You are all powerful compared to them.  But, as I'm sure you are, you are a loving and compassionate person and don't want to harm anything.  Therefore, be "superior" to them, and show them mercy.  You can do this by "understanding" them and their lives and the great good they do to help make our world the beautiful place that it is.

If you were with me for one day, I could completely "eliminate" your fears.  I have loved and worked with and made my living off the wonderful wildlife of the earth all my life.  And, the insects and spiders are my favorite.

Did you know that there is a little, harmless, spider that lives in Papua New Guinea that is so beautiful you'd want it for a broach?  It's called an Orchid Spider, and it feeds on tiny little insects like gnats and flys that get caught in its web.  It's abdomen is so colorful you wouldn't believe it.  It's orange, and blue, and green, and red, and yellow.

Did you also know that one of the most beautiful spiders in the world is the Red-Legged Tarantula.  It's this big, hairy, black spider with bright orange "knees" on it's legs.  It is so completely harmless and gentle that my wife has handled one many, many times while I took the photographs.

And, insects.  Do you know why bees and wasps follow you around sometimes?  It's because you're a girl.  And girls smell sweet and dress in bright colors, sooooo, they think you're a flower and they want to check you out.  If you stand still, they'll look you over, and seeing that you are NOT a flower, will fly away and look for one elsewhere.  I taught my wife this about Bumble Bees, and now she just laughs if they fly about her.

LEARN about these wonderful animals and you WILL lose your fear.

  2. I live alone, and I don't like spiders.  They come into my house and think they can live here rent free.  I used to be really terrified of spiders, but you get used to it.  There are about 3 spiders in the room I'm in at the moment, and I'm not particularly bothered.  All you need is to deal with them a couple of times, then you know you can handle it.  I try not to kill a spider unless it really scares me, i.e., a big spider will get a spraying of Raid crawling insect killer and then get hoovered up.  In extreme circumstances (running out of raid), my neighbours will help me out.

  3. ditto.

    im exactly like you! lol

no i dont plan on living alone. I'd be too scared to, or i'd be calling my friends at 2am everynight, asking them to get rid of a spider for me!

  4. I also have this phobia. The best way to deal with spiders in your home is to have a clean house and your Raid spray right next to you and eventually you will start to calm down about spiders. Plus its good to have a nice hobby to take your mind off of the phobia.:)

  5. I'm more afraid of bees inside my home, than spiders or any insect.  I tolerate them outside, knowing I can go inside.  Inside, they are on my turf, they must die for that.  They scare me at first, but then they make me mad for being in my domain.  This is my house, not theirs.  If you don't swat them, they will still be in your house for you to see again & again.  I don't know how big your spiders are, but since having a couple of cats, nothing gets by them.  But it sure grosses me out when they catch them, then eat them.  I still try to get any bees before the cats do, afraid they might get stung in the mouth.  If you get a cat, get one with a long triangular face, (from ear tips to tip of nose).  This personality is always on the search for new things.
