I dont understand why his mom abused him and treat his brothers so nicely.. why was he the only one and wat was wrong with his mom. why did his mom hit him and torture him other than because he was a "bad boy"

We will never really know why his mother picked him-  In my situation- I was the only girl, among 3 boys.  The stepfather chose me most of the time as his whipping post.  Maybe it had something to do with Dave's mom mental state, and the easiest to pick on?
