I just asked this very same question awhile ago, and I only received one answer. The answer was fine, but it didn't answer all my questions.

I have 3 cars in mind.

Brand New Honda accord sedan EX, Brand New Toyota Camry SE, and a used 2005 Mercedes-Benz E320.

All cars cost the same. 24K.

I don't like the inside design of the Camry. And I don't like the design of the dashboard of the Honda accord. But everything about the Mercedes is fantastic.

If I choose the Mercedes, will insurance per month or year cost more than the Honda and the Toyota just because it is a Mercedes?

Also, the Mercedes only has 30K Mileage on it, which is good.

  1. the one bad thing about MB is the cost of the parts and service.

even an oil change can require a bank loan if your visiting the dealership and not using a independent mechanic.

look at the Nissan Altima and the Kia Optima both are very reliable vehicles and will cost less to own and maintain than a Honda or MB.

  2. theres no way anyone on here will really know the answer to that. there are way to many unknown factors, your driving record, where you live, what kind of coverage you want, how much coverage you want, where do you drive, etc. etc etc. The only way to really know is to get quotes from car insurance places.

The only thing I can tell you is, the Merc would cost more to insure if it were new, but since its already 3 years old and the other two cars are new then they will be closer in price, but NO ONE on here will really know which one is cheaper.

  3. Repair costs on the Benz will eat you alive.  Even something as simple as small routine maintenance is an arm and a leg.  Also, be careful, you are coming close to the 30K inspection/mainenance interval.  Insurance on the Benz will still be more in general due to the price/cost of replacement parts.

That leaves the Honda, and the Toyota.  The Accord EX is more of a luxury model and the Camry SE is the sports edition.  I am not sure why you are looking at the different designs.  Anyway, both are very practical, fuel efficient (Toyota slightly better), and inexpensive to own and maintain.  Both are relatively new in design and will look fresh for a few years.   However, when you go to trade them, the Toyota will maintain the better resale value, look at the Camry XE, or XLE for yet better resale value.

  4. New Honda:  Very nice, finally has personality, good power, good mpg, very reliable, reasonable price, inexpensive to maintain.

New Toyota:  Ugly as sin, everyone has one.  But very reliable, inexpensive to maintain, good mpg, reasonable price.

2005 Benz:  Great luxury car, expensive to maintain, but  does everything better than the two new cars.  And it's a Benz, not a j*p car.

Insurance should be similar on all three, at least not enough of a difference to base your decision on.

Personally, if i was in your position where obviously you have a certain budget, I would go for the Accord, but I'd spend a little more for the v6.

  5. When your car is in the shop, waiting on parts, and you are bled dry with repair costs, the design of the dash in the Honda or Toyota will begin to look much better.
