To vax not to vax? what do you think?

We all know vaccines May or may not cause autism or other serious issues, we all know they contain terrible things like formaldehyde and mercury, However with past disease outbreaks and ones that could occur in the future.....We kind of all know we should be safe and try to avoid our child getting a deadly disease.

Who knows if another country would or could hit us with germ warfare....

I saw one mom wrote that she does not vaccinate and felt if one of the deadly diseases that they vaccinate for came upon her child that her child could fight it off just fine with their immune system because she breastfed. In that case then why have so many people died over the past 100 years of the diseases that we have vaccines for now?

How do you feel about moms who do not vaccinate their children?

How do they get their child into daycare, preschool, elementary school? Do you think they are endangering their child or others?

Do vaccines bother you or do you think they are no big deal?

Do you vaccinate with caution, like ask lots of questions and check the latest research before getting your child vaccinated?

there is an ongoing debate here

  1. A breastfed child is not guaranteed to be protected their whole lives!  Wow, I'd love to meet that mother.

Frankly, I don't think twice about it.  I vaccinate because it will protect my kids from deadly illnesses.  The risk of them getting sick or autism from a shot is extremely rare.  I don't care what the statistics are - so no one bother telling me.

  2. No offense but life is full choices. If you cant research and ask questions, make an informed choice and proceed then you probably shouldnt have kids. I don't care if you choose to vaccinate or not. You wouldnt buy a new home or a new car without research. If your making major decisons about vaccinating without research you need to stop and think about your child. I vaccinate my kids. But i took the time to research and decide thats what i wanted to do.

  3. I think vaccination is good as well as care from parents side is also necessary.

  4. In that case then why have so many people died over the past 100 years of the diseases that we have vaccines for now?

**She was probably talking about her STILL breastfed baby, in which case, she's right, she's giving her immunities.

How do you feel about moms who do not vaccinate their children?

** Just don't complain or be surprised if/when your child catches a disease!!

How do they get their child into daycare, preschool, elementary school? Do you think they are endangering their child or others?

** No one HAS to vaccinate their child by law.  You get a form from your doctors stating that you didn't want your child to get the vacc.

Do vaccines bother you or do you think they are no big deal?

** The only one that bothers me is the chicken pox vax.  If you read about the chicken pox, you will find that it is much better for our immune system if it just goes through it and fights it off.  It is a very mild disease that can strengthen our immune system.  Also, the vax wears off when the person is an adult, that's when the chicken pox are deadly.

Do you vaccinate with caution, like ask lots of questions and check the latest research before getting your child vaccinated?

** YES.  I waited until my kids were 1 year old to start their jabs.  And I didn't let them have the chicken pox vacc.

  5. Even if you are actively breastfeeding your baby, it doesn't make them bulletproof to all illnesses.  Breastfed kids still will get sick!  So to say your child is safe from diseases and can fight them off fine because they are breastfed is a ridiculous and ignorant statement that that mother wrote.

I vaccinated all my kids (and I have one child with autism).  I would do it all again - the only thing I would change from the research out there, is I would space out my child's vaccinations.  The one proven case of a "link" between autism and vaccines, is where a child with an underlying disorder received NINE vaccinations in one day.  I also don't understand the importance of the chicken pox vaccine.  Everyone in my generation had chicken pox and it does not seem like a big deal.

How do I feel about moms who do not vaccinate?  Well, in a way I feel they are getting a "free ride" off of all the mothers that choose to vaccinate their kids.  I also think its risky to their child's health.  And it endangers babies that are too young to have received all their vaccinations.  But, its their choice, and I'm grateful we live in a country where you have the choice.  My kids are vaccinated so I feel they are safe regardless.  There are ways to get your unvaccinated kid into schools, most use the religion excuse.

I used to think vaccines were not that big of a deal.... with all the media out there on it, it has made me think twice which I think is a good thing.  I do vaccinate with caution now, and while I strongly feel my son's autism was NOT caused by vaccines, I do wish I hadn't so blindly followed my doctors vaccination schedule when they were babies (they're 7, 5 and 4 now).

  6. How do they get their child into daycare, preschool, elementary school?

Each state has its own laws, there are 3 ways Religious beliefs, personal beliefs and one other one I can't think of.

You have to get a letter to the school stating why you haven't vax your kids but you can only do what your state allows.

NY only allows religious and the one I can't remember, WI allows them all.

There is a site where you can f ind out what laws your states has for it.

I chose to delay them until there is more information on them, there is too much controversy on the effects it can have and I don't like the idea of injecting my kids with things that could be worse then the disease it's trying to prevent.

  7. Vaccines are there for our protection.  I think moms who don't vaccinate are possibly bringing back diseases that we had almost gotten rid of.  There is no proof vaccines cause these conditions.  Like I heard someone say before, we hear about autism more now because it is being diagnosed more now.  It doesn't mean 100 years ago it wasn't around just as much, they just didn't diagnose it as often.  They put all the children under a general term back then of "slow" or even a more horrible term "retarded" (I DO NOT LIKE THE TERM JUST STATING HOW IT WAS).  Now they know what it is so more children are getting diagnosed.  A lot of them get their children into school by lying and saying it is against their religion to vaccinate which should be against the law and should be checked into.  If a vaccine is required then my children receive it.  If it's not required (like flu) then my children haven't received it.  Most of the things they are vaccinating against have killed or disabled lots of people and I don't want them back full force.

To the person who asked how I know they aren't practicing the religion.  :  I have no problem with the people who are actually practicing the religion.  That was not what I intended when I said that.  The ones I'm speaking of are ones that use that to get around the laws.  I've been on several msg boards and people who choose not to vax will ask "Well how can I get them into school?" and several people's responses are "Just fill out one of those religion forms.  They don't ask for proof so you don't actually have to be of that religion."  I personally think that is disrespectful to the people of the religions, and I think it should be against the law to lie to get around the law.  I have no actual "proof" of this other than several mothers on the board stating they had used it and weren't of the religion.   But again, if it truly IS your religious beliefs then use the form, just don't lie about it if it's not.

  8. I think that it is a parents choice.  I personally do vaccinate, I would feel horrible if my kids got sick.  The only ones I do not get is the rotovirus and the flu shots.  I do understand the risks of getting vaccines,  and yes I get nervous when my children get their shots.  You have risks in everything that you give your child, you have risks when they get sick and you have to give them an antibiotic, they could be highly allergic to it and have a horrible reaction, just like with immunizations  There is also a risk every time you give your child a new food, what if they have a reaction to that.  There are so many risks out in the world that can harm our babies.  In the city that I live in, in the past year, there has been a breakout of whooping cough and the measles.  And in the state of Nevada, if you have a religious reason for not vaccinating your child, they can attend public school.  And its just not the unvaccinated children getting the other kids sick at school, its parents that send their kids to school sick.  But that's just my opinion, I don't expect anyone to agree with me, but I had to put in my 2 cents.

  9. I have never received a single vaccine and went to public schools my entire life. I'm not saying Im for or against them but no school or daycare can deny your religious beliefs. There's a reason that your religious beliefs are federally protected.

If you do your research and your doing what you think is best for your child then that's all anyone can ask.

EDIT-how do we know the rise in disease's isnt just from unvaccinated children but from Illegal immigrants?

Read the insert on the vaccines it has a list of whats in it to the person questioning formaldehyde.

ASKFORALITTLEHELP-not trying to argue but how can you prove that the parents claiming religion really arent practicing? Maybe they do it at home and not at a church. I don't think it's anyone's business what my religion is, again that's why Dr's and nurses cannot ask you and that too is federally protected.

  10. Most public schools won't take unvaccinated kids.  My friend didn't vaccinate and home schooled and when the kids went to college a case of strep nearly killed their son.  He missed the whole semester just because his parents didn't toughen up his immune system.  I haven't heard and cases of their being mercury or formaldehyde in vaccines.  But I have heard that they are trying to make vaccines more 'green'.

Is this mother that didn't vaccinate going to nurse her kid forever?  She trusts her own vaccinations?  Sounds a little hypocritical.

  11. it's a parents choice. I wonder some times about kids who don't get vaccinated and who attend school how their health is. my daughter hasn't had the chicken pox vaccine but she has had other vaccines.
