To vegetarians and meat eaters?

Question

I am a ovo-lacto vegetarian who comes from a family with people who eat meat [a lot] i have nothing against it unless they try to make comments about me being a vegetarian or they get only meat things when they know I dont eat them.

My cousin says that God put animals on this earth so we can eat them.

But I say s/he put Adam and Eve in the GARDEN of Eden and he wanted us to eat mainly fruits and vegetables.

What are your thoughts on what we think?

And I think meat eaters need a new name. It doesnt sound as nice. lol.

Human beings are genetically designed to hunt, and eat meat.  It's a fact.  Hence forward facing eye sockets, canine teeth.  We are hunters, not prey.  Furthermore, being vegetarian takes some work..you have to do your research in order to get a sustainable diet, which i'm sure you have already done...but some people rush into it and end up with bad hair bad skin.  

That being said, in this day and age it is alot easier to be a vegetarian by choice...you have access to a variety of fruits and veggies and nuts/grains...that you wouldn't have had as much access to prior to the industrial revolution.  You also have access to a variety of vitamin suppliments.  Most people prior to the industrial revolution ate more seafood and fish than red meat, because red meat was more expensive....also a cow or goat was worth more for milk and breeding than it would have been for meat.

Adam and eve story is metaphorical not literal, so I wouldn't pin too much of your argument on that event.

To conclude this argument, I would direct you to review some caveman paintings....  I think it would be rare to find a painting of an avocado in place of a hunter with a bow.

HUMANS ARE NEITHER MEAT EATERS OR VEGETARIANS ALONE... WE ARE OMNIVORES.  WE EAT EVERYTHING, MOSTLY WHAT IS AVAILABLE, BUT MEAT IS THE MOST SUSTAINING FACTOR OF OUR DIETS.

We are omnivores, (like pigs) which means our bodies are made to process both meat and vegetables to maintain a healthy body and mind. Vegetariansm etc is personal choice. You wouldn't expect a cow to eat a gammon steak and you wouldn't expect a lion to eat cabbage and carrots. Its got nothing to do with god, but everything to do with nutrition. Do you think there would be any cows pigs and sheep etc if no-one ate them? The farmers wouldn't feed and look after them just to look at would they?

I think Evil Meat eaters could be one. and I think animals were put on earth like us ... They should get the privilege to live as long as us We shouldn't eat them.

It is very rude  for your family to do such things, but if they choose to eat meat, then that is there own choice. Besides, meant eaters are called omnivores or non vegetarians.

I also agree that animals were put on the earth to eat. I know how vegs. feel about humans killing animals for food consumption, but about other animals killing animals for food consumption? Doesnt that bother you guys? Would you rather there be NO animals what so ever on the planet. ??

I totally agree. It was after adam and eve sinned, when they started to eat meat. so God did not put animals on the earth to be eaten. they were put on this earth to keep adam company until God saw that adam needed a companion that was like him. I think meat eaters should be called, undesirables. It has a much nicer ring to it than meat eaters

I think plants & animals are here for our consumption. Why do they sacrifice animals & why do they still do it today. Jesus fed the crowd of people fish & bread.

yeah we have a name " Normal People", also god isn't real, hes just a fictional character from a fictional novel. Also it seems a bit contradictory to be a Vegan and believe in God as Vegans tend to rely on facts to help them, but God has nothing in the way of facts, dont even dare quote the bible as a fact.

Humans evolved to be successful omnivores – which means that our ancestors could make use of all kinds of food and seasonal variations in food. When humans lived a hunter-gatherer existence, when herds migrated and no meat source was available, some groups of humans would go for long periods of time eating only vegetation and vegetable matter. We evolved to be a species which can be perfectly healthy with a diet that does not contain meat, because at most points in our history it simply wasn’t available to everyone every day. It’s only very recently and since the start of agrarian culture and animal husbandry that we could begin to control our diets and eat all kinds of foods at will.

For our ancestors, when meat was available, it was an excellent sopurce of protein. Nowadays, we can replace meat in our diets because of the huge wealth of foodstuffs that people in the developed world have access to. We no longer 'need' to rely on meat for a healthy diet. If your family want to eat meat, then that's their decision, but the idea that animal products are a necessary part of a healthy modern diet is erroneous.

I think that humans can eat meat, but I don't think that we were made specifically for that purpose. (Scientists have shown that actually, we are better equipped to deal with a herbivorous diet rather than carnivorous.) We developed meat-eating as an adaptation rather than a necessity. I think the only time we are truly justified in killing animals for consumption is in a life-or-death situation: if it comes down to starving or eating meat.

God put animals on this earth for company, to keep the ecosystem in check, and to eat ONLY as a last resort. Nowadays, with a wide range of foods that can fulfill our nutritional needs as well as meats can, there is no need to  kill animals merely because they taste good and we can.
