To what does the flag in "Animal Farm" represent, relate to, or compare to historically?

The flag is green, representing the green fields of England. It consists of a horse hoof and horn signifying the future Republic of Animals which would rise when the human race was overthrown. I'm having a difficult time comparing it to anything historically, so I'd appreciate any truthful help.

The flag in the book is meant to be like the flag from the soviet union.

The hoof and horn are meant to be like the hammer and sickle on the original flag. In the pics below you can see the resemblance!
