To what extent did the Inquisition impinge upon the pursuit of scientific knowledge in 16th century spain?

In these....different areas, we see the same dynamic; the fear of change...outside the Spanish ecclesiastical and academic world, a new language was shaping itself, a sign of the emancipation and progress of thought....

Jesus me what is that suppose to mean...? I am not a history crack and need some seriuse help with that question....

  1. Maybe the catholic church felt their authority was being threatened so they persecuted all the free thinkers, scientists etc?

    I'm surprised you have to ask , actually


  2. Actually not a great deal. The Church hardly ever was concerned by the particulars of scientific ideas.
