To what extent does the average college value the SAT I writing section?

My math and crit. reading scores are good, but my writing is pretty poor. will this bring me down alot?

  1. The writing section of the SAT is fairly new to most colleges, and therefore they are still figuring out how exactly to use it in determining their admissions. If your writing score is significantly lower than your other 2 scores, you should consider taking the test again.  If your math and reading scores are good enough to be in the range for that college, you shouldn't worry too much about your low writing score.


  2. if you graduated in the top %10 of your class and have a cumulative SAT score higher than 1300, most colleges will give you a full ride.

    having high test scores makes you exempt from a large number of things... but the overall score also gets you into certain colleges and gives you a higher chance of receiving a large scholarship.
