  1. None, the reason Russia appears to be aggressive is that there was to much change to quickly, so they have to slow down their progress towards a democratic society to manage the changes, or risk a civil war

  2. I wasn't aware that either the USA won the cold war, or Russia had subsequently become aggressive.

You need to check your facts.

  3. No. Why do you continue to try to find fault with anything that you can possibly blame on the US?? You don't want us to be the world's policeman, UNTIL something happens to you... then it's "you guys MUST help", followed very shortly by "It's the US's fault"... yeesh, can't you fine folks make up your mind... and yes, I meant that as a single mind...

There seems to be a major breakdown... I have been told for 7 years that the world hates us... so how come the internal c**p in osetia is being put on our shoulders? Just blame Bush, ignore your own shortcomings, and move on... or do you miss the weapons smuggling, and the drug trafficking?

  4. J G +1

  5. We didn't display any triumphalism after December 24, 1991. To the contrary. No victory parade to celebrate our "victory" in the Cold War. We reduced the size of our armed forces by a large amount. Closed a lot of our bases in the U.S.

The successor regime to the Soviet Union (the Russian Federation) has even been offered official observer status at NATO headquarters and was invited to contribute troops to the NATO military mission in Bosnia.

So, we are not the source of Putin's paranoia.

  6. Russia craves self importance and respect from others, but unlike america it has no background for others to form that opinion,as Russia has not relied on democracy or wealth creation or human rights, but pruely on military means to get countries to submit to them

America though imperfect has created the richest country on the planet with democratic principles.Everyone on the planet has moved away from Russian type actions to American style wealth creation. This has left Russia alone, bitter and resentful and determined to show the world they can still make others bow to their military might,ie Ukraine,Georgia,Checnaya, the baltic states.

  7. Perhaps a small factor.  I think the biggest factor is the absolute whipping they took by the rebels in Chechnya.

A small, highly motivated, force of rag-tag rebels fought them to a standstill.  It wasn't until the Russians literally turned the country into rubble, to deny the rebels civilian support, that they were finally able to subdue them.

They feel they have to show the world and potential breakaway regions that they can still take care of business.

The Russian Army (non nuclear forces) is actually in horrible shape.  They can't feed and cloth them.

  8.   Most of that nonsense came from the naive pie hole of Bill Clinton !  At one point he was so misguided that he suggested that the CIA had nothing to do since we no longer had enemies, that perhaps (tongue in cheek) it could be used for industrial espionage.

The US wasn't  blatant about this triumph as much as Bill Clinton was completly stupid in his assessment of the situation !
