the un is united by no common philosophical belief.  like democracy, a dictatorship, etc.  this means no one in it is working for the benefit of the un, they are manipulating the forum to advance their own country's international standing.  thus is the great flaw.

examples of un failure rwanda, darfur, bosnia, korea, etc...   they keep the peace, but create an environment in which they must be present, never solving the problems just slowing them down.  it could be seen as the un doing this in order to create a need for themselves.  like if you cure sickness you will go out of business, if you treat the symptoms youre sure to be needed forever.

if you want conspiracy theories go to www.prisonplanet.com   or alexjones.com

less conspiracy type stuff go to glenn beck's site.

also the us is vastly the main funder of the un.  without us they wouldnt be able to exist.  conflict of interest?

  2. First let me say that the Model United Nations And Relations is not  a useless organization. Who do you think is working to stop the genocide in Darfur, or the Arab-Israeli Conflict, Global Warming, stuff like that? The UN has power to the extent that they can strongly advise countries to do something. Also they can say if wars are to be started, but they can not say you can't go to war. I am proud to say that the Model United Nations is a group of people that keep nations safe. TO THOSE COMMENTS THAT SAY THE MODEL UN IS USELESS, GO SAVE A COUNTRY AND IT'S PEOPLE AND COME BACK AND TALK!

  3. If I were to write an essay, I would say it is unfair to place the responsibility for the preservation of world stability and peace on a single organization like the UN.  I would say this because such an organization must rely on the support of its member states for funding, resources, troops, and even the ability to come to a major decision and take decisive action.  Therefore, the ultimate responsibility for stability rests with sovereign states, as utopian or unrealistic as that may seem.

However, it is appropriate to expect of such an organization the things for which it is well suited.  For example, the UN is one of the best ways for states to voice concerns and encourage discussion amongst themselves.  Therefore, while stability cannot be wholly the responsibility of the UN, it can be expected to contribute significantly by creating transparency and normalizing and routinizing relations among states.

Furthermore, the UN contributes to long term stability by contributing more than any other organization or state to sustainable development in the third world.  It is this work that helps to alleviate pervasive conditions such as poverty that can contribute to political conflict and ultimately armed struggle.

To sum up, it is wrong to place responsibility for stability and peace on the shoulders of one organization, but it is appropriate to expect such an organization to contribute in certain ways.

  4. The UN is a worthless organization and should be banned!

  5. only free countries should be allowed in the u.n.

  6. The United Nations through the Security Council must intercede in disputes of countries so that peace will be attained.  Likewise, the International Court of Justice must effectively try and rule on conflicts of states to preserve world stability.

  7. None !  The U.N. is anti-American. It should be considered irrelevant to international relations.  Moving the U.N. headquarters to South Africa would make New York city a better place to live.

  8. The true question is does the UN truly have power. The UN is a joke the majority of their forces are composed of US troops and it is just a figurehead organization that appears to the public as if it can control things. The UN provides very little stability to the world. Its major effects are on small countries that have civil wars or fued between them. They stick up for the little guy. They disagreed with america going to Iraq but did it stop us no. they are a complete joke and a waste of money

  9. The UN is a useless, corrupt, liberal organization.

  10. Everybody knows the UN is a joke, or rather an escape goat. The UN is how the big boys keep the little guys in the game. It means nothing. When US or France or Russia or China or UK wants to do something, they’ll do it and no one will stop them. Every now and then they go to the UN to pretend it’s still worth something. Remember, US, China, Russia, UK France run the US. If any one of them give a thumbs down, nothing can happen. When the UN fails it’s because at least one of the five wants it to. When the UN succeeds it’s because ALL five want the UN to succeed.

The rest of they time they just pretend. They could get rid of the UN tomorrow and very little would change.
